I am so glad I found this Forum. I got scammed big time on Match.com by a guy calling himself Mike Duffy. If this can help one person, I will be thankful. After reading through a lot of Forums , I realize how badly I got burned. He was on Match one day and left. telling me to call him. His pictures were of a very handsome gentleman. He said he was 50 years old, a widower from Sweden, that his wife had died of breast cancer and he had one son and was living in the US near Phila PA. I called him a few days later and he told me he left match because of me and he saw in me the woman he wanted to be with . He said he was an interior designer.
NOw I know how fake the entire thing was. The name is SO common there is no way you can google him. His phone number came up to be a land line with no name. I tried to trace it many times. After a few days of chatting he told me he was leaving for Istanbul, Turkey because he got a job with the UN to redesign a building. Still at this point, I did not catch on. He also told me he never dated in 6 years after his wife died. He gave me this overseas # which was VERY similiar to numbers I found on other sites of scammers. After two days in Turkey, tragedy struck! One of his workers fell to his death and he almost died too and lost his Blackberrys and had no phones to do his work with. They were all in TUrkish there and could I send him 2 Blackberrys.. or he had to come home right away and he had no one else to help him? dumb me I fell for this!
Then he " trusted" me enough for him to E mail me his wonderful contract, that he would receive 1.5 million dollars to do this job but he had to pay for the expenses up front. When he got back to the US , he was going to not work for 6 months so we could be together day and night., his " baby" his love.
Then he ran out of money. His mom sent him money but it was not enough and he needed more. I see how clever he was sucking me in, telling me = that he loved me and all this crap. He told me that a friend was going to give him money and could I give him my checking account number and the friend would deposit the money and could I send it to him via Western Union. He told me his money was tied up here in the US and he could not get it or he would have to return to the US. SO I did, and bam my life bcame a living hell. The checks were conterfiet and I had made only one withdrawel but they continued to deposit them. THey came from FLORIDA and I am from NJ.
So now my life is a mess and I am left holding the bag . I could never get him to admit what he did to me.
Ohand they call you baby and not by your real name becasue they are talking to many women at the same time. Please be warned!!! These people are sick!

there is some more to this story. these people kept on making these huge deposits into my accounts over 15 of them. Mike acted shocked, Who would do such a thing? Even after I caught on.,I tried to trick him and he
could not answer anything. He said he did not know his " friend" was dishonest. When I asked him to give me his US address he could not even come up with it. HE never talked about his son either. only how much he loved me. In myheart I knew he was fake, but I bought into the idea of someone loving me
DON"T DO IT!!!!!!
I have gone to my local police and the FBI and I am going to go as public with this as I can.

My story is so similar to Michele90's that it is scary! Between July 18 2011 and Aug 17, 2011, I was scammed by a Match.com member named Peter Billian, Profile name: Applepete111, email : [email protected], phone number 011 90 5338301338 (Istanbul/Turkey). Things mailed to him went c/o Fred Eke, Atilkan House, Lefkosa K.k.t.c., Via Mersin 10, Turkey. He was British, claimed to have a farmhouse in Kent England where he housed his "Mum", 2 horses, and 2 dogs. Claimed to rent a house in Somersworth NH when not travelling oversees doing architecture/building construction work. Wife (supposedly from Somersworth NH)and daughter died in a car crash in Germany 5 years ago, he only dated one other woman in that last 5 years and he almost married her. But she was "trying to ruin him financially" and eventually ran off with his best friend. Not long after contacting me, he sent me pictures of a very handsome man, he removed his Match.com profile, and asked me to do the same and after a few days of calling me by my first name, I quickly became "babes", "honey", "sweetie"- must be hard to keep all the women's names straight that you are scamming!! Then came the "accident" in which a worker on his job was injured in the hospital in a coma, cell phones destroyed, needed a new Blackberry Torch with a case. Then he wanted to me to check if a deposit was made to his bank account in the UK- gave me the info, a password and a PIN. When I accessed the account, it listed his name, address in London, and verified that a deposit for 1.8 million GBP (lots and lots of USD!!) was made that day. Then his machinery broke down, would cost $15,000 to repair, only had $10K, couldn't access his UK account...the worker in a coma died, his family wanted to cover funeral expenses and was demanding cash for pain and suffering, could I try to find $20K for him????....I finally broke it off after he conned me into giving him my bank account info in order to receive a deposit of $60K form an"US financier" that I would wire to him and I could take off the top what he owed me. And when I googled the address I sent the cell phone to I discovered that it was an address for Lefkosa on the island of Cyprus- very very far from Istanbul. Fortunately I was able to close down my bank accounts before he accessed them. I am still out $6500 but if I can help just one woman avoid being victimized in this way, I will feel better.

OMG these guys are sick! The FBI is on my case now. I too am sorry you got scammed.they say these people are very hard to catch. Black berry's must be really important to them!
by katydid2010 Tue Aug 23, 2011 5:51 pm
So true, Michele90- they are very sick and slick! I, too, reported my case to the FBI but have heard nothing from them. You would think between all the information you and I have on this "guy" (s), they could do something. Our stories sound so similar and occured so close together you wonder if it is the same person or group of people.
by Michele90 Tue Aug 23, 2011 5:56 pm
I wonder too, looking back there were so many clues.. where did you meet this guy? If nothing else at least YOU found this and we are getting the word out. I am sure the guy who scammed my does not go by the name Mike Duffy any more. If you google " MAtch com scams Istanbul Turkey: all this stuff comes up. I have a lot of stuff on him too but since its most likely fake.. I don't know do you have his IP?
