Hi there, i am a victim of a romance scammer aka "Angela Stone" [email protected] and I'm sure that I'm not the only one out there. Any how, with today's technology, isn't there a way to track these people doun via trace method ? I really would like to see this scammer(s) get what they deserve. I have contacted FBI, but I'm not sure if they can do much, i imagine that they have more important issues to attend to.

Welcome to Scamwarners, ballast. Sorry you fell victim to this scammer. :(

All you can actually find out about the scammers is where their email comes from - that information is in the headers of the emails you get.

Sadly, though, headers only give the Country & not the actual identity of the scammer, who is generally sitting in an internet cafe, sending the same emails to many others. FBI & other law enforcement agencies can do little with the information, as usually, the scams come from outside the US etc (like Nigeria) & LE have no powers to act there!

Hi ballast and welcome. I'm sorry to hear that you were a victim to this scammer. As Crispy Duck has said, impossibilities in finding the real identities of the scammers, coupled with jurisdictional issues for law enforcement make it very difficult for the scammers to ever be caught.
While the scammer can't be caught, you can certainly play a part to slow him and other scammers down, just as we are. If you've posted their information here that will help prevent some people from falling victim. Spread the word about these and other types of scams and please do feel free to contribute any other scam emails you receive to our forum here. Keep reading here about the other types of scams, as well, to be able to protect yourself and your friends/family.

Hi All,
Not done this before so not sure if im in the right place!!! can someone help me!! I have been in contact with a US army Sgt (well he claims to be), he is asking me for money for Transit leave and i have already paid out £1650 but now i am being asked for £2,200 replacement officer fee, i have read that the US army do not ask for money for leave process. I have got all the emails and papers that have been sent by this man and his Col has emailed me, along with a friend who is so called going to help me with the leave process. I wrote to the Col and asked if any further payments would be requested and he assures me not! I have not sent anymore money as i have a suspiscion that it is a scam.
Please can anyone advise? i have emails and papers if you need to see them, along with photos of him and one of his son.
Thanks

Hello, Chez & welcome to Scamwarners.

YES - it is a scam!

Please have a look at this topic; viewtopic.php?f=13&t=6527

especially this part:

Important facts to note about Military leave:
• Military leave is not bought. There are never fees to be paid before leave will be granted.
• A visit to a boyfriend/girlfriend/fiancee would not qualify as emergency leave.
• An outside person can not apply for leave for someone in the US military. Only the soldier can apply, through official military channels.

If you are corresponding with someone who claims to be from any branch of the US military, and he asks you to complete ANY military forms, or you are contacted by any "military official" in relation to him/her, it is a scam.

Can you please post any email addresses, names, phone numbers & photos you have received?
That way, you will help others who may be being scammed by this criminal!

Hello cheryl, welcome to scamwarners.

I'm afraid that you have been scammed. The officer scam is very popular lately by scammers and unfortunaetly it makes many victims. This sort of scams is explained in detail in this thread: [CLICK HERE]

The pictures you reveived are fake, just as the documents and basically every mail he sent you. Once you have paid one time, "something" will occur that requires another payment. And then another. It never ends. I very strongly advise you to stop mailing with him, and to stop all contact. He will try to lie his way out of it, don't give him a single chance. He will say all the words you want to hear, these people are professional liars. Just delete his mails as soon as you receive them, without even reading them.

Unfortunately there is no way for us to retrieve your money or get him arrested. Most likely this scammer is operating from an internet cafe in West Africa, using email accounts with fake names. It is virtually impossible to link the scammer to his online account. I also want you to be cautious of the recovery scam: it is very likely that you will receive an email from someone claiming they have captured the scammer and they retreived your money. All you need to do is send a little fee for the documents, and... you get the idea. These people are the same scammers, trying another angle to steal even more money. Don't believe them.

Can you show us some of his early mails and which email account he uses? By posting them online we may prevent other victims falling for this same scammer.

Hello Cheryl,

Unfortunately, as Crispy Duck and Michael have already said, he is a scammer. We don't need to see the documents to tell you that much. This is an increasingly common scam, and it is always (no exceptions) a scam. The US military does not charge fees for leave, period. Outside parties cannot apply for leave for a soldier, and no branch of the US government uses Western Union. If you confront your scammer, he will probably tell you that policies have changed, only people in the military understand them, or some other lie along those lines. They are all lies. Policies have not changed, and they are not going to change--this is not how our military works, and the one who doesn't understand the US military is the scammer, because he is actually a young African, not an American soldier.

Could you please post the name/email/phone numbers this person is using? We would like to see (and post) the emails/documents/photos you were sent as a warning to other victims (your personal information should be removed, though). If you can post them (or PM myself or another member of our support team) you might help prevent others being scammed.

I would also be happy to review some of his correspondence and point out some of the other signs that show he is a scammer, if you would like. However, we always ask that you don't educate scammers by telling them where they went wrong. And as tempting as it is to confront him, I have to recommend that you simply cut off contact with him completely. If you have sent money already, you are emotionally invested in what you thought was a real relationship. He will take advantage of that fact, and the longer you are in contact with him, the more chance he has to manipulate you.

Hi Everyone,
Going to put a few more emails on here for you from Sgt Corley Mason and Co...

This one i had back after i said i had heard about the scams... pity i didnt listen to my head rather than my heart! This was a couple of weeks into the so called relationship.... Ladies don't be fooled, these people are very clever.

I dont know what to say at the moment am just gobsmacked, i have heard about people pretending to be in the army and infact the war zones, trying to get money from people on a pretence of the transit leave, though the transit online leave does exist but due to all kind of irregular and scam issues this process has been limited and it can not be processed online again except by a guarrantor which is a high ranking officer, so dont be scared because am whom i say i am, and i wont have any reason to ask you for any money what so ever because am financially ok, and will be far more buoyant after my tour because of the incentives from the tour, in subsequent time i will tell you more about my financies and inheritance, my dad is use to be a very wealth man, but due to some reasons or the other i have not been able to access all my inheritance from him, OH am i say too much now, well i know very soon all this cloudy moment will be over and we shall laugh at last.. I know that being apart from each other in a relationship is feeling death in slow motion. I think of how things could have been if only am home, But, what can we do now? Pray for days to run fast?,lol
I can't think of anything else, but of what our destiny might be. Suddenly, I close my eyes and I imagine your hands caressing my face, fearing that you'll feel the tears running through my cheeks. I know this feeling am having is for real and i fear to express my self all the while since it might seeems to fast and weird, just as you have said in your email about the con people, but believe me this feeling is real.. The fear of losing you is making me mad. Don't let this relationship die through the distance, nor let the faith fall away... I cant wait to have you in my arms, and make the sun shine on these stormy time.
I do swear that I'll always be there. I'd give anything and everything and I will always care. I am glad that I picked you to fall in love with, So unfortunate the messenger kept playing up for sometime now, would have love to spend the whole night and day with you chatting and confessing how much i want to be with you. I can't wait to be home with you my love. I want to gaze into your eyes soon and be able to hear your voice saying how much i mean to you and how much you love me. I drive myself crazy ever since we last chat because have not been able to chat with you. I know definitely our love will grow strong before meeting each other in person. So the hours will pass and the days slowly roll by and every minute I will miss you and think of you till am finally home. I love you so much my love and thanks for all the emails yesterday when i could not get to the messenger, you such a darling..
I think my computer is got some kinda trojan running on it and that is why the messenger keeps kicking me off, I will still keep trying to get online hopefully it works out..Am all free today so i will be at the internet room immediately after launch and try to get means to chat you up sweetie
I care so much about you and i believe the feeling is really mutual and believe me am for real and all i have said about myself is real.
I thank God for bringing you to my life and i will never break up with you...xx
