I have an ink & toner business & from out of the blue got an email that is verbatim what your site warned it to be, asking to purchase only OEM's of one of my most expensive toners. Remanufactured were not good enough for him, only the best will do. He also left a phone number so I called it from a magic-jack phone so he can't trace the number & he is oh so accommodating!

Hi Inkand toner

Welcome to Scamwarners

This sounds very much like a recent scam where he will want to deposit payment directly into your account.

He will actually deposit money in there and add extra for delivery.

The deliveery fees will need to be paid to his courier by Western union.

Where is the scam you may be wondering, the bank account he pays from will not be his, it will be a compromised bank account not belonging to him and when the owner finds out you will be the one who has to repay the money.

It is possible of course that it is a standard cheque scam that works in much the same way but something tells me it is the compromised bank account scam.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask

It's unusual for a scammer to insist on buying the most expensive item on the shelf (OEMs can be very expensive when compared to replacements) They are normally happy to buy absoluty anything so long as they can pay by cheque or send an overpayment to a bank account as Ralph describes above.

Could the "Most expensive toner" be MICR ? ..in which case he might have been ordering cartridges for a Check Mule who is printing his counterfeit cheques for him

Hello,

I have recently been scammed by andrew cole patterson. This has caused me alot of embarrassment, harrassment of my family and left me in debt.

I dont want the same thing happening to someone else. The whole 'script' was very plausible and believable.

Hi samantha1234 and welcome. I'm sorry to hear that you have been scammed. While I understand your embarrassment, please know that you needn't feel that way. As you say, the scripts are often very believable. These scammers are professional conmen. The best way to help prevent this from happening to spread the word to increase awareness and to publish the information you have about the scammer who stole from you so that it will show up in searches for others. Please let anyone on the support team know if you need help with this, we're glad to help.
