Learn about us and introduce yourself

Hello, I am LeAnn and I live in the US. I have joined a few sites that I thought were just social sites but they turned out to be ideal sites for scammers to frequent. I have met several men, at least I think they are men, who have started out to be friendly but like the info says, they fell in love very quickly. Before too long they were asking for money for a variety of things. One wanted me to help pay for his flight to come from Nigeria to meet me, another needed a new laptop, another had been sick and in the hospital and needed medicine, etc.......
I am currently chatting with several others who say they are from the states but one is in UK, one in Paris, one in Nigeria, one in Malaysia, and one is in the military and stationed in Iraq. The scams take many shapes and sizes. They want money to help with workers or their kids have been in horrible accidents or fires. The one that is stationed in Iraq wants to talk with me on the phone for Valentine's day but the fee for the satellite phone is $375 sent by Western Union to a woman in FL. It all sounds too fishy to me.
Thankfully I have a lady friend who lives in Australia who has had much experience with scammers and she checks things out for me and advises me when something doesn't sound right.
I joined here because apparently there are quite a few new scams that I haven't heard of yet and I hope to learn so I can protect myself.
I'm glad to be here.

Hi Snobird

Great to have you drop in,

A great way to make it harder for scammers is to list their details and post their scripted emails for others to find here.

If you could either post or email their information to me we can help save many from being scammed.

If you have any questions, please ask

Hi John and welcome to Scamwarners

I am glad that we were able to help you.

That particular company is not the kind of scam we normally deal with here but from the accounts of those customers who have posted it certainly isn't a company that I would deal with.

Please also be mindful of Petforce, it is run by the same person.

If we can help you in any way, please ask

Hi I am Hibiscus from the US. Happy V-day Everyone. I am thankful for sites like this. As a romance scam victim, I do not feel alone. Recently I joined an online dating site and was fooled by a Nigerian scammer using stolen photos, who happened to be my first match. Luckily I did not lose any money, but I felt stupid for having been fooled and for believing that this person was real. We spoke on the phone, exchanged emails and online chats. He identified himself as living in Florida, but said he was doing business in Nigeria and was planning on returing to the US at the end of the month. He also said he was an engineer and that his wife died of cancer 3 years ago. The first thing that tipped me off was an email from the online dating site telling me they had terminated this person but that their privacy policy prevented them from revealing why. Although I was in shock, this email led me to do research on online dating scams. Luckily, I found this site and others like it, which helped me educate myself and feel less alone in being scammed. His behavior fit the profile of a scammer to the T! I would like to give the stolen pictures to the site admin to post. I feel bad for the real person whose photos are being used to swindle others.

Welcome, Hibiscus! I'm so glad to hear that you didn't lose any money and took the time to do some searching. Thank you for taking the time to join here and post.

You can post the photos the scammer was using, here is a topic that will give you some information about how to do that: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=3219

Please do start a topic about the scammer who was writing to you in our romance scams forum. Include any information you have about him but make sure not to include anything that identifies you. Let us know if you need help with this. :D

Hi, my name is Janet, and I live in sunny California.

Anyone else out there seeking valid employment and end up getting responses from creeps? The job market right now is horrible - and then to have false ads appear that read really well and turn out to be junk! :D

Welcome to scamwarners JCTriska

Applying for jobs on free listing sites can be fraught with danger. You might like to spend some time looking at some of the more typical Job Scams in this Forum:-

viewforum.php?f=34

Never take a job that involves printing, receiving or distributing cheques and never send anyone that you don't know personally money by wire transfer (Western Union/Moneygram).
