Welcome Sandra and peanut,

I am glad to see some more new faces, though sorry for what has brought both of you here.

Sandra, hopefully you have already seen my response to your other thread confirming that you are in fact dealing with a scammer.

Peanut,

The limited information you have given is not sufficient for a definitive answer, but what you are describing already suggests your friend is likely in the midst of a scam. In order to give you a more complete response, we will need as much information you can provide to us about the "woman" your friend is in contact with. If you haven't done so already, you probably want to run all of the photos you can through both tineye and scamdigger. Please look at the stickies in the romance scam forum, and encourage your friend to read them if you can. I would also recommend starting a thread in the "Is this a scam?" subforum. Include any information you can--dating profiles, emails, all names, addresses and phone numbers used. If there is a strong suggestion of a scam, we may also offer to have a warner contact the victim by phone or email.

Hi, I am new here and I hope I posted in the right spot. I am in the process of being scammed or I should say they are trying to scam me. I have answers like one is from a soldier in Afghanistan wanting money for processing fees. I told him well according to military.com, you don't pay processing fees for a leave. I also told both I am poor, live on disability which is true and I could not help them at all.

The other one said he was in the USA but had a job offer in Nigeria, a light went on. Now he wants $$, sorry but I have none. He was supposedly robbed of everything but his cell phone??? Anyway, I have a UPS box so it is a street address to anyone I do not know. Now he says that the American Embassy is going to send a check. RIGHT?? LOL Then he said oh just give him my account number from my Wachovia checking account, so they can put it in there directly. Sorry b ut really I don't deal with Wachovioa. LOL I am having fun leading them on, trying to get more evidence. I have already reported it to the Trade commission and the IC-3 and called the FBI in my area. I was once scammed almost from a man who sent me a Moneygram for a puppy for double price, I was to keep the rest. I turned it over to the police station here to learn about one of the scams people use.

I can relate to alot of these I have read. I can't understand how people can send money to someone they never met??? I don't even give to my kids.

Welcome giveup,

I'm glad you have recognized these scammers before you have lost money. Any time you are uncertain as to whether something is a scam attempt, you can always ask here and we will be happy to help you sort it out.

What you are doing (leading scammers on) is called scambaiting. Many of us here are also scambaiters, and at times we use baiting as a tool to get necessary information. However, for your safety, there are certain precautions you should take when baiting. You can learn more about effective baiting techniques and safety at our sister site, http://www.419eater.com Many of us here are also members of eater, so you will see many common faces.

You can also help prevent others from being scammed by posting information on the scammers you locate in our forums. It sounds like many of the scammers you encounter would belong in the Love Scams forum, but you will see we have forums for other types of advance fee fraud as well.

the information I have is extremely limited that is why I was unable to post specifics ...ran the photos and no match . He has already paid 557.25 for visa/ passport he had a poem that I found on love.com. All the flags are their but I am thinking these are new photos of a yet unknown scammer but I will post the information I know on the other thread . I hate to see him bamboozeld out of thousands just because he is vulnerable. I appreciate your reponse though Keep up the good work and thanks for all you do!!!!

Hello there,

I am a girl, new there, and just being scammed, a kind of compassion I had for a romance scammer, because I am generous, but they did not get a lot of money from me, because I tend to ask a lot of questions.
The scammer did not give up yet (I precise).
And now I am having a lot of fun.
I hope to be beginning the hunting soon with other scammers and to become a good scam warner one day, I have a lot to learn, but I am hoping..
I can speak French but won't give any more details there in order to secure me a good hunting in the future :bondage:
Of course I don't like the idea to hunt humans, but it is in order to help the victims.
Thanks to the team there, particularly to XXXChrisXXX.
Hunting scammers is ethic, fun and we can revenge all we want by laughing at them! Du dernier chic !
Anyway I hope one day everybody on this earth will have enough means to live (and will be honest!!), it is true that these scammers are coming from underdevelopped or say poor countries, even if not the poorer.
Any idea to hunt the masters of the world too?

Read you soon!

Hi Scamoupas, glad to see you made it to the forum here. :D I'm glad to hear that you have been able to get the situation with your scammer sorted, sorry that you lost some money in the process. As you know, I'm familiar with your story and your kindness is commendable. Learning more about these scams will assure that your kindness goes to those who really deserve it from now on.

Just to note: 419Eater is where we bait the scammers and have fun at their expense, ScamWarners is where we post the information on scammers to alert and save victims. Both are worthwhile causes and I'd be glad to see you at both sites.

Welcome tenshi,

I am sorry that a scammer brought you here, but I am glad to see that you asked before you were pulled further into the scam! Please don't hesitate to ask if you encounter more questionable offers in your job hunt.
