Hello, Emma! I see you are in charge here, so just to tell you that I am coming again, not with a squad of 20-year future lawyers, my students, I have been in this since earlier very popular pen pal clubs. I was very active, but life is life, and I had to stop for a time.

But here I am again, with much more experience. My name is Vesna and I am from the Balkans, from Bosnia and Herzegovina. I turned in two guys. As I am 58 years of age, they come after me as flies come after honey, probably because they think that, at this age, I am very desperate to find someone and that I am an easy prey. Besides, my country is so small and inconspicuous, not to mention that we had a civil war here and that, just as in Africa, corruption and criminal are in full blossom. If you are in lack of ideas, my dear Ladies, here I am with all my intelligence and wit. I have great sense of humour, and I am having the fun of my life exchanging emails and chats with these scammers, and sometimes I am just plain sorry when the game is over. Oh, yes, I am a University Professor, and English is not my native tongue, but regard it as if it is.

Emma, my bow down to the earth for this site. I am looking forward to cooperation with all of you here, and what is more, my students will learn quite a new branch of criminal law.

Oh, by the way...The guy I turned in Yesterday, gave me a link to a very reputable small business company in NY, and I am not sure if the owner of the company should be warned, too. Oh, and something I have just thought about: are we some sort of modern Roobin Hoods? I like the idea very much.

Best wishes, a lot of sincere regards, and take care! And above all, enjoy yourselves.

Welcome, Scameater51 and tunnelhill!

Scameater--what you are talking about is scambaiting, and while we often post profiles and information we obtained from baiting here at scamwarners, it sounds like our sister site 419eater.com will probably be more useful to you. Over on eater, you can learn more about baiting safely, gain access to different tools and ideas to help you, exchange some of those ideas, and even help each other out on another baiting site. If you aren't a member there yet, I would highly recommend it--and of course we always appreciate additional scammer profiles and information once you have sufficient evidence to establish the profile as a scam!

Jane,

I am sorry to hear about your recent experience. Unfortunately, you are not alone--these scammers fool people for a living, and they really don't care how much harm they do to their victims. We would be happy to help you to put together a full profile of your scammer to help prevent him scamming others, and will answer any questions you have--either posted in the forums or by private message. Unfortunately, the one thing we can't do is get your money back--in reality nobody can do that--but we can help you to recognize signs of scams in the future, and help you to avoid becoming a victim of a recovery scam.

Hi, I am Petra from Namibia,
just received an invite by email regarding a global poverty eradication conference which had scam written all over it... when checking via google re the website given I came across scamwarners immediately. Glad to have found you.

We received an invite to another conference supposedly taking place in Kenya in August. The website is cut-and-paste, the gov depts mentioned know nothing about it, and when cornering the info desk, we received notice that the conference was by invitation only, (whereas it was open before), also some of the people in Kenya received threats of being sued, etc. Where do we send all the info that we have.

The speakers that are invited are genuine speakers and I am afraid that they will also fall prey to this scam.

There is not one physical address given, and the programmes offered according to the website do not exist. The bank account is in the US. The person claims she is a Kenyan promoting the cause.

hope you can help,
regards
Petra

Hi Petra, welcome to Scamwarners,

Thank you for teh information you have provided, could you please also post the emails and the email address that you received with your own details removed.

Conference scams are not at all uncommon, they will generally suggest that many people will be guest speakers who will not actually know about the conference you have been invited to so they will not be at risk.

The way the scam works is to pass you onto another email address (usually operated by the same person who contacted you originally) to organise accomodation, this person will need deposits to be paid up front, usually by Western Union.

The conference does not exist, the accomodation does not exist and the invite is an attempt to steal your money.

If you post as many details as you can, anybody who happens to do a search on those details will find your information and avoid being scammed.

For you, the best thing to do is to stop all communication with these people, completely ignore them and eventually they will go away.

If you have any questions please ask and we will do our best to give you answers

Welcome here Petra. As Ralph said, could you post the emails that you received from the scammers? If possible with the full headers. If you don't know how to get the headers on your email account, just ask one of the support team members or a moderator. I have a special interest in these conference scammers.

Being a victim doesn't mean you stand alone. We're here to help you.
