How do the folks at Scamwarners know who to warn? It's easy enough to find the scammers, but how do you know who is communicating with them?

Thanks,
Harpo

Hi Harpo,

We get information on people to warn in a variety of ways. Sometimes friends and family of victims contact us and ask us to warn their loved one. Baiters at 419Eater also send us information they get through their baits. For some of the other ways, we prefer not to post the mistakes in leaving trails that scammers make as it will help them improve their scams should they read this. I am sending you a PM. :D

I am 2 a bit confused how scamwarners know? I recieved a telephone call warning me about a scam. Can someone please send me a PM and clarify how scamwarners got my contact information to phone me to warn me about a scam?

Hi Kash, unfortunately I can't give you a specific answer as I don't know who you really are. Your best bet would be to PM Jillian with any details you feel happy providing. If you were warned recently, she might be able to find your file.

I hope you have realised that whatever the answer you receive is, the warning was still valid. The person you are in contact with is a scammer and you should take some steps to ensure your safety.

Hi Kash. While I don't know the details of the scam that was targeting you or how your information was found, I will send you a PM explaining a bit more about how we get information. We don't like to publicize it here because scammers read this forum. They don't need to know.

Hi Kash

Welcome to Scamwarners

What is more important than how we found out about the scam is how do we help you to prevent being caught up with scams in the future.

While I understand why you would want to know, we are always mindful of being able to continue to find more victims of the same scammer, so sometimes we do need to be vague, many of the people we warn pass on our warnings to the scammers confronting them with the information we have provided, while most people do not forward our warnings or disclose what we tell them, some do and it has in the past meant we get death threats or much worse from our point of view is that we may miss the opportunity to warn others.

If you need any information on the scam you were involved in or if you want to know how to spot the scammers please dont hesitate to ask
