Hi I live in Australia and have been hit by scammers but lost nothing first was a Major General Mike Brown, sent scanned photos of his passport ect.Scam. today a Burcham Curtis sgt, only his photo had his name tag Burcham which he said was his first name (as if), yes they always have either a dearly loved wife & daughter killed in a car crash, recently divorced with a son, the newest one is a geologist that even created his webpage to look legit, didn't take much searching to find it was a scam. The one mistake is he puffed himself up on the webpage (as if)
They all are honest, one women men wanting marriage. Who do they think we are idiots.
Yes I would have loved to met a person who was the real deal, wouldn't we all.
I find I am starting to get hard and cynical :laugh-s: so time I gave up and kept my head down.
Good luck to those who get a genuine one.
Cas :laugh-s: :laugh-s:

Welcome Cas!
I'm glad you know how to spot scammers. :=)
Could you please post the email address the crook used? This will help victims who do a Google search.
Thanks!

Also live in Australia and was contacted by the same person. Smelt a rat right at the beginning when he kept insisting on having my personal email address. Fortunately gave him one I rarely use. Yes, the usual story - lost a wife and child, currently serving in Middle East. Funny the pics he sent me are of a civilian not a military man. He contacted me initially through an Australian created site.

To answer Katharina's comment the email add he contacted me on was [email protected]

These scammers all have the same story re being widowers and children. They all want to chat on yahoo. They all use the same phrasing in their sentences. They have nearly all just registered on that site. And they have a picture of a really hot looking guy. The dumber ones use the hot guy's real name - easy to google information to throw back at them. They also get countries and cities totally wrong, have height and weight out of proportion. So easy to spot them. Do they go to a coaching school? I work night shift so often sit on a chat line when the scammers from overseas are all awake. I love playing with them for a while before I hit them with the fact I know they are trying to scam me. Some get offended - perhaps I picked them wrong :laugh-s: But most just disappear. Ah, another victory!!!!

Welcome tamojuch!

I'm glad you can't be scammed. And thank you for posting this warning. Sorry I have to bother you with a bit of red tape now:
Usually, we need some proof that the email address is used for scamming. For instance, a jilted girlfriend might try to get revenge by posting her ex-boyfriend's email address. Of course I believe you :D but we need to be careful to maintain the standard of the site. So just post the text of one of the scammer's emails.

And something else: It's fine to tell the scammer that you are on to him. But please don't tell him how you found out. By listing his mistakes you are educating him to be a better scammer.

Thanks for reading my explanations, and I hope you will stick around.

Hi Katharina, thanks for the welcome. I don't tell the scammers how I am on to them. That list was more to help the women out there how to spot them. Happy to post his email - you want the whole thing including the pics he sent me?

Here's the email I received:

My name is Major General Mike Brown, a Major General in the US army. I lost my wife and one of my child (daughter) about 3 and half year ago and i am currently single never married since i lost my dear wife and i am a General that is currently serving in Afghanistan ( International peace keeping mission) for my country....My only surviving child is currently schooling now and he is coming of age 17 and i am here not for jokes or to catch fun, i just came here to look for a soul mate that i will spend the rest of my life with and i am looking forward for a great relationship that will last for ever.... I look onto the future with hope and would like to create a relationship based on respect, understanding, trust and love. Seeking a relationship with longevity and not just something will end in just a blink of an eye. I have a great sense of humor and can dish it out to make a sad day enjoyable. Honestly I've all that it takes to be a man; I don't really need anything from my partner. Maybe in terms of circumstances there might some kind of help from each other, helping to make things right. It's not all that easy meeting that rightful woman with all those qualities which I'm dreaming off, I'm not sure exactly what they mean by personal habits, but I will take a shot here. Some personal habits include a fairly strutted, organized lifestyle. I like order in my life, but not to the point of being obsessive about it. I enjoy exercising (mostly strength training and cardioid s) to stay healthy. Personal hygiene is also important to me; taking care of one's self. I'm an easy-going person who likes to laugh and have fun - I have a dry wit, but I do have a serious side, and I try to balance the two. I'm mostly serious at work or when the situation is warranted. Some of my hobbies include cooking, gardening, hunting, reading and fishing. Also, swimming and playing golf in the summertime. I enjoy watching football and golf; I enjoy attending sporting events, going to the theater and eating out, to name a few. I’m not sure if this answered the question. I love traveling, new and unknown in nature, life and people I love friends and family...I am a very sincere person who laughs easily, loves to tease and be teased and who communicates openly and honestly. please do feel free and ask me anything you wish to know about me, i will like to know more about you as well. Thank you

Maj. Gen. Mike Brown

Trying to upload his pics, but having difficulty. Will keep trying!

Scammers always get it wrong! Since when did Afghanistan become an International Peace Keeping Mission? I guess they don't know any more than they do when they claim to be serving in Nigeria. :laugh-s:

No luck in trying to post the pics. Sorry but they were embedded in the email and I can't work out how to get them on here.

I have another person with whom I am communicating that I am highly suspicious of. When I get more information and emails, I will post them under his username and email addresses. Interestingly his profiles on email addresses and person.com have totally different information.

Ah the thrill of the chase!
