Good Morning!
I am a new member, as of 5 minutes ago. We have a truck for sale on craig's list and got a reply from someone today that sounded too weird to be real. My son came in and I read it to him. Thank goodness he told me to copy and paste part of the note into a search... I had no idea that was even possible. The first thing that came up on the Google search was your site and an exact copy of the entire post from the "person"! I thought it was odd but was still shocked at this brazen scam!
Thanks to your site I was able to become educated and see that it was an attempt to rob my PayPal account. I am copying the entire note and putting it here in hopes that others will not be tempted to reply to this scam with action that could cost them dearly. I do have a question.... when I went to the email link on craig's list that was to be used to report a scam, I was taken through a bunch of multiple choice questions until I came to one that could be answered only if I had actually already lost money. The fact that I did not give the information to the scammer wasn't listed as a choice in the answers. If I have not lost money am I not to report this attempt? I have had things like this happen in the past and have been fortunate enough to avoid losing dollars but I still think someone needs to know. Could you help me with that?
One obvious glitch that made me suspicious, even if the 'story' had not be so strange, was the fact that there were numerous names and email accounts. The first email came from Jason [email protected]
The address above the copied note below was lewis john <[email protected]
Then, as I had hit reply and was considering what to say in response, I noticed the email would be sent to
[email protected] That was when my son came in and I did the search.
Here is the email reply to our ad after he had asked me in an earlier short note if we still had the truck and what our lowest price would be. We had replied that we were at our asking price. Here is the reply, most of it word for word the reply sent to another member of your web site:
Thank you for getting back to me. Can you assure me that it's in
good state and that i will not be disappointed with it.I'm ready to
pay your asking price and to be honest, i wanted to buy this for my
father, but the issue is i am an oceanographer and i do have a
contract to go for which starts tomorrow and am leaving any moment
from now.The contract is strictly no call due to the lack of reception
on the sea area. But I'm able to access email anytime as we will make
use of laptop so my only quickest payment option is PayPal as i can
send money via PayPal anytime.Since I'm requesting this transaction to
be done via PayPal, i will be responsible for all the paypal
fee/charges on this transaction and if you don't have an account with
paypal, its pretty easy, safe and secured to open one. Just log on to
http://www.paypal.com/. I hope we can make the purchase as fast as possible? I
have a mover that will come for it once payment clears and they will
take care of very necessary paper for me. So i look forward to hear
from you soon. will like to see more pics.
I need the address where the agent will meet you and your PayPal
email address so i can send the money now.
Many Thanks
I am so thankful that the warning was available through this web site. I am thrilled to find your site at a time when doing business is taking more and more awareness to avoid being 'taken'!
