Presently Being Scammed

I posted a legitimate ad on Craigs List and received several bogus responses. I am currently having a email dialog with two of these scammers and really don't know how far I should take it. I would love to find out who they are. They have sent me bogus checks, both from Bank of America. I called B of A and was told that the checks were fake. I have told the scammers that I have deposited the checks and withdrawn cash, but am a little reluctant to use Western Union. There is no way I am going to send any money, but I want to cause as much trouble for these scammers as I can. I can provide copies of our emails if anyone thinks they can help me get back at these people. Thanks in advance for any help.

Since you are talking to this criminals using your real life information, I strongly advise you to drop them like a hot potato asap. As for the checks, never try to deposit them, the best is to just shred them up.

It sounds like you are interested in scambaiting, something we don't really discuss on this board. However, if you want to cause them as much pain as you can, I'd like to send you to our sister site 419eater.com, where there are hundreds of same-minded people who can assist you and learn you how to bait safe.

As to finding out who they are.. It's practically impossible. They are using fake names, fake email adresses and are sending from internet cafés in (most likely) Africa. Linking a scammer to his scammer persona is practically impossible.

What you can do for us is to post the emails you received from these scammers, along with a set of headers. Do make sure to remove your personal details. By posting their scripts we can alert and educate many victims
