Faber Landau Research has become indispensable to so many people around the world… investors who've learned to not always trust what they read in the paper or see on TV
How we grew to become a leader in investment research.
In 1999, Gregory Masterson, then head of research at a prominant investment brokerage, a Washington-based broker, approached a group of forensic accountants, including Michael Newbourgh, to write equity research that focused on the accounting at various public companies. With the markets believing earnings did not matter, accountants focused on selling consulting services, and investors caught in the excitement of the dot-com boom, the timing could not have been better.
Within a year, the partners realized that the only way to realize their goal was to form a separate company focused solely on research. With no underwriting biases, no trading constraints and truth the only focus, the Faber Landau Research Group was born.
Over the past decade, we have built an investment research team that resembles that of a forensic accounting firm: CAs, CPAs, CBVs and industry experts. Members of our team have marked professional exams, taught at the undergraduate, graduate and professional levels, and served on accounting standards and regulatory advisory boards. Faber Landau is one of very few research firms to be certified as a CA training office by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the United States of America.
The firm has grown rapidly on the back of bold investment calls. Faber Landau's clients include some of North America’s largest institutional and pension fund managers, wealth management advisors at Royal Bank Dominion Securities and National Bank Financial, and national regulators. Most recently, Faber Landau was one of seven North American independent research providers selected for the Bloomberg Tradebook platform.
