It’s not enough to do good legal work. There are many firms out there and to be fair, most are capable of closing a deal or winning a case. It's hardly surprising. We went to the same law schools, learned the same legal principles and passed the same exams.

Our approach is not simply to “represent" our clients but to get into their heads; to understand their business and to know their industries as well as they do. We do this so we are not presenting legal advice in a vacuum but rather with the understanding of how it will affect their bottom line. When they grow, we grow. It’s called momentum.

The firm has wide experience in all areas of practice important to businesses, including corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, private equity, real estate transactions, bankruptcy and reorganizations, taxation, litigation, trusts and estates, intellectual property, and labor and employment law. Its clients include participants in many industries, including chemicals, entertainment, financial services, health care, hospitality, information technology, insurance, internet, manufacturing, media and communications, pharmaceuticals, real estate investment, sports, and transportation.

WHO WE ARE

As business opportunities grow in size and complexity, relationships built on trust and respect are more important than ever. Close-working relationships define Seth Cohen culture and service philosophy.

Our success as a law firm is based on our ability to help clients consistently meet their legal and business objectives on a timely and cost-effective basis. We earn the trust, confidence and respect of some of the largest corporations in the world by adhering to five primary core values:

•Excellence in client service and overall work product
•Value in meeting and exceeding clients' expectations
•Integrity at both the individual and institutional levels
•Commitment to our clients, employees and communities
•Teamwork within the firm and with clients to foster idea and information sharing

We have pursued a client-focused strategy to ensure that we have and continue to develop "experts" in specific fields who can provide greater value because of their depth of knowledge. Our goal is to provide value for each client, which includes knowledge of existing laws and issues on the horizon; innovation and creativity to help solve difficult or novel problems; significant experience with key regulators and their processes to anticipate issues in advance and develop strategies to avoid or minimize those regulatory obstacles; and access to a wide range of other parties, such as investment bankers and other experts, that may need to be called upon for a client.

As important, our network of practice groups within the firm is exceptionally deep and enables us to pull together the appropriate team of lawyers from multiple practice groups to meet our clients needs. To ensure superior client service, typically one partner is designated to oversee each client relationship. The role of this partner is to stay in close touch with the client to understand their needs and issues, to make recommendations regarding strategy and staffing, and to act as a sounding board and problem solver across our practice groups.

What factors distinguish Seth Cohen in today's market?

Clients today are not just looking for lawyers with degrees from top law schools or lawyers with experience in a given area. Many firms have that. The difference is in the process we have in place to serve our clients' particular needs. Typically responsiveness, efficient work habits, returning phone calls, caring about a client's cost restraints. Effective communication is the most important thing that clients want. No surprises.
