We have a Europe based client who has been scammed out of funds by this website from what we have seen is it phoenix operation where cloned sites are set up under different domains and addresses to fleece funds.

The images used are ripped off from genuine sites and the company directors images are taken from US based realtor websites.

Indeed and we have seen a lot of these sites set up over the past few years. Usually they'll make use of bank accounts in the UK and it's important that those bank accounts are reported to the UK authorities so that they can be shut down. They don't have any shortage of bank accounts and an important part of their criminal operations is getting them set up, but if they can be closed it will at least slow down their operations.

Be in no doubt that this is a global criminal enterprise that operates from the UK to the USA and Australia to Eastern Europe and law enforcement will only make a difference when they unite to stamp down on their activities. Unfortunately they appear largely impotent. The FBI have posted wanted posters for some members of the gang but, if they've absconded to the UK they will most likely be able to operate without much risk of being apprehended I'm sorry to say.

A member has asked me to check out three other websites purporting to represent three UK construction machine companies. The first one has turned out to be a real incorporated UK company but certain factors make me sceptical about the goods it is offering for sale but, for legal reasons at this stage, I cannot name them. I will endeavour to get someone to visit the claimed location of their premises. The photos of the machinery they are offering for sale look to have come from construction sites and the premises of other dealers and I have seen other scammers operate this way. Instead of stealing photographs from other adverts, they visit construction sites or the premises of dealers under some pretext and take photos or even videos (I have seen), which makes it very difficult for me to trace 'doppelgangers'.

This is very irritating but if it can be determined that they have no premises at the claimed location it is fair comment to point this out.

Meanwhile, if you are located outside the UK, it is very risky to pay for machinery without visiting the company and viewing the goods being sold, unless someone you know and trust has confirmed the existence and trustworthiness of the company involved. Unfortunately there are so many fraudsters masquerading as real companies in the UK that it is very risky to trust anything you see being offered for sale on the internet in the UK. As a UK citizen I say this reluctantly, but it's the only way that people abroad can protect themselves from fraudsters.
