Apparently I won 550k UK pounds from BT-Telecoms in some random international phone number draw. (I'm sure BT's marketing arm knows that Telecom is the "T" in "BT", British Telecom Telecoms seems overkill on the telco message to me). Interestingly, the SMS (aka text message) was sent from an Australian mobile number (+61) rather than UK one.

I fail to see why BT would give away cash to international randoms. The SMS then says to contact [email protected], if there was such a lottery I would have expected a bt.co.uk, bt.com or bt-global.com e-mail address. live.co.uk seems suspiciously like live.com email addresses, which have been used for Malaysian based frauds; and the other scam I have reported on this site seemed to come from a Malaysian IP address, suggesting it may be the same source using the same database.

It's not about hurting other people--it's about stealing your money. The scammers will ask you to pay fees to collect your imaginary winnings. Those bogus fees are all they are after, and they don't care if they hurt you or even destroy you in the process--all they care about is what they can get.
