As stated above, you NEVER have to pay fees or open bank accounts to receive lottery winnings. They are given to you in a check.

This is in accordance with section 13(1n) of National Gambling fund Transfer Act as adopted in 1993 and amended on 3rd July 1996 by the constitutional assembly. This is to protect such Prize and to avoid misappropriation of funds. It is important that you are noted one more time that this activation fee you have been asked to pay would be refunded back to you at any time you so desire to close the account after the transfer.

Scammers love to "quote" regulations which don't really exist. This makes them sound more authentic. It is also designed to make you feel that if you object you might be asking them to break a law.

A search on the email address gives me this result Click here
Many hits refer to scams.

Most scam bankers use free email providors which most people will pick up on straight away, the smarter scammers will make fake sites and use the email address that comes with it to look more legitimate, careful inspection of the email domain reveals it is fraudulent.

I have also done a search on part of the email and got this result click here it seems all the hits are also scam emails

Also of interest is how much it costs to open one of these bank accounts, last time I opened an account it was free, banks dont chagre such fees to open an account and real lotteries dont require you to open an account to recieve your winnings

Lottery scams are very common but a few key things to remember;
You cant win a lottery that you didn't enter
If you did enter a lottery and buy a ticket, unless you gave them your email address they will certainly not contact you by email then ask for your address
You do not have to pay money to recieve your winnings from a real lottery

Also remember that banks will never ask you to send money by using western union or moneygram, wouldn't you think that a real bank could organise payment through bank transfer

The above email is a scam, the best course of action is to delete and forget, unless you have time to post it publicly first :wink:

From the National Lottery website here
The following points are some things to look for in order to identify a fraudulent email:

* If the email says ‘Winning Notification’ or ‘Lottery Sweep Stake’ in the text, the email you’ve received is not from UK National Lottery;
* We don’t tell players how much they've won in an email; and
* We don’t ask for any Player information like name, address or bank details on an email.

Other points.
Why would a UK bank ask for a payment in USD?
This is in accordance with section 13(1n) of National Gambling fund Transfer Act as adopted in 1993 and amended on 3rd July 1996 by the constitutional assembly.

"Constitutional assembly"? Anyone in the UK would say "Parliament.
Lotteries are set up to make profits, and prizes come from the proceeds of selling tickets. So there are no free lotteries. Not ones that give large cash prizes, that is.
