The 419 scammers we deal with have a slightly lop-sided view of the real world and often incorporate the FBI and Scotland Yard in their recovery scam mails, such as the one below. As soon as they use the term Scotland Yard to refer to the UK police, that's good enough to uncover it as a fraud. No one in the UK refers to the police, or any department of theirs as Scotland Yard. It is part of their address but only in Sherlock Holmes novels or black and white TV series was this term used.

In much popular fiction and cinema, the term New Scotland Yard is used incorrectly instead of Metropolitan Police to describe the police force in London. Occasionally, the term is even used (again incorrectly) to refer to all police in the United Kingdom.
