Help Getting Leave scam

  • In this scam the fake soldier will tell you that he would like to meet you but in order to do that he will need to make an application for leave which will require a fee to be paid.
  • You will be introduced to other characters played by the scammer, supposedly his superiors or other government officials, who will tell you that fees such as a "replacement officer fee" need to be paid (often by Western Union or Money Gram) to various departments or officials such as Department of Defense or Homeland Security.
  • After you pay the fee, the scammer will give you a new reason as to why he can't be with you, requiring you to send even more money to overcome this fictitious obstacle. This cycle will continue as long as the victim is willing to pay.

Important facts to note about Military leave:
  • Military leave is not bought. There are never fees to be paid before leave will be granted.
  • A visit to a boyfriend/girlfriend/fiancee would not qualify as emergency leave.
  • An outside person can not apply for leave for someone in the US military. Only the soldier can apply, through official military channels.

If you are corresponding with someone who claims to be from any branch of the US military, and he asks you to complete ANY military forms, or you are contacted by any "military official" in relation to him/her, it is a scam.

I was scammed from a fake military. Mrs Karen Vasseur ( I had the same name on my fake leave request) is probably a woman who the scammer uses identity to steal money, infact she's a little bit old to be an army agent (she's 72 y.o.).

wbcc: Did you actually send money to the name Karen Vasseur in Colorado? If so, was it picked up?

Also, just to make it clear: It really doesn't matter how old they are, because there is no such thing as an "agent" who collects money from civilians for the US military.

No Dotty, I send all the documents to the American Embassy, I have contact the American police, but it seems not so much interested in catch the scammer. :( I will tell my story soon, I only say, I send all the documents that prove the scam, I catch the scammer (I am in Switzerland and they are in USA), but no one has moved a finger! Unfortunately who is scammed, is only a double victim! For all the friends here stay tuned, next week I'll post my story, and believe me it's incredible. Greetings from Switzerland

Wbcc,

The problem is, the scammer isn't in the US. He is in Africa or Malaysia. I have reason to believe in this case that he is indeed in Nigeria.

The person in the US is typically a mule--someone who receives money and then forwards it to the scammers. Often the mule is an innocent victim who has been led to believe that he or she is (a) performing a legitimate job collecting payments for a business or (b) helping the person he/she loves to receive legitimate payments. The real scammer is out of the reach of US law enforcement, which is why they sometimes appear to be uninterested.

Yes this same guy tried to scam me too. Fortunately I thought it sounded suspicious when money was involved. He gives you a beautiful sob story, what a great looking guy in the photo, such a charmer and wow he is totally smitten with you in minutes. Sounds too good to be true cause it is. When I asked him how do I know that he's not a scammer, he acted hurt and horrified that I'd suggest such a thing. I said that I don't even know for sure that he is in the army he could be sitting in Nigeria for all I know. He said I sound crazy, why would he scam me for 300 usd. Not that I'd pay that to talk to someone I don't know but couldn't afford it anyway. You would think you would at least change your name for next scam. Are us women that gulable that wefall for this in the hope of romance?

I agree with Dotti, I'd suggest that the actual person "the soldier" is Nigerian or similiar, when I suggested this to him he said, where's Nigeria, acting all stupid. Either lives there or in France, seems to have a fasination with France and often makes references to there, even though false but would say there is some connection.

Oh Tom Docker is still around and has struck again. It only took me a few days to figure him out. He is still using [email protected] for his email address. Now he says he is in Afghan - has been for 17 mos. still has a 14 yr old daughter named Olivia, her birthday is 5/21/2008, she lives with his mother in Liverpool,NY. His dob is 9/7/1963. I met him on Datehookup.com - what a charmer - certainly knows exactly what to say - luckily when things started to sound to good to be true - I got ahold of a friend in the Army and she did a search for me on AKO- Army ase Reg. First I tried doing name searches on my own and nothing came up - that's when I decided to call my friend. In the mean time I continued to let him believe that he was still playing me. Today he fianally gave me the so called address for his General - [email protected]. I wish there was a way to put a stop to him and others like him. Is there anyone we can contact? I still have him eating out of my hand - but I don't know how much longer I can do this before he figures out that I know. lol Let me know soon. Thank you!

Welcome to Scamwarners, Liar2012!
Thanks for posting! I'm glad that you weren't scammed.

I still have him eating out of my hand - but I don't know how much longer I can do this before he figures out that I know.

We recommend that you stop contact. Just drop the scammer without telling him why. Please don't tell him that you saw him on this site. We want him to stick with the names and story posted, so that other potential victims using google can find this info and hopefully be saved from being scammed. :D
