Information on romance scams and scammers.

I was contacted on Mate1.com by Sgt Tracy Hayes, US Army medic stationed in Iraq. Some very nice pics including one supposedly with her son. Then came the email that her son was sick and she couldn't wait for email information and that her phone wouldn't work on the Iraq network. She wanted me to arrange for her phone service through TS2, said she'd pay me back when she got state side and that she would "ring" me also. LOL. Ring me is a British term, not an American term. That was the second alarm bell. Then I started researching the whole TS2 scam. She almost had me, this person was GOOD.

The Yahoo ID and email address for this person is [email protected]

Here is the profile on mate1.com: http://www.mate1.com/nw/profile/view/30131658

The person said they were from Minneapolis, have a four year old son named John who lives with her mother. I don't have any of the other details, including the US Forces ID she gave as I've deleted all the emails and blocked the email address.

Kills me how much I opened up to a person in a short time. They didn't get my money but they got a good chunk of my trust and self respect.

Big thing that bothers me is there probably really IS a Sgt Tracy Hayes out there (based on the uniform picture) who doesn't know her images and name are being used.

I have a question. I need to find out info on whether this guy I have been talking to is for real or not. We've been talking for months. He said he was a captain in Military intelligence. All I have are instant messaging saved. I also know that he's on facebook. He's told me that he has requested the TS2 phone and that I need to send a $500US deposit to activate it. I'm worried this is a scam. How would I find out if it is? Is there some way without DOB or SSN number that you can retrieve that info and check? Please PM me if you can help......

PLEASE

Angelheart,

I am sad to say that if he is asking to send money for the phone, it is already certain he is a scammer and in reality he is not the man in the pictures. US military do NOT need a TS2 phone to talk--the whole thing is entirely a scammer creation.

Depending on what email provider he is using, if he is not hiding behind a proxy, and you have kept any emails from him, I can help you to look for his true location. I can also help you to identify more of the signs that show he is a scammer, if you would like you can send me some of the chat logs by pm and I can help you to work through identifying some of the other signs.

We will also want to post a profile of this scammer here to alert others he may be scamming at the same time.

I did look into this TS2 thing and they are actual phones used in remote areas by the US army just so you do know that. They are rather expensive, and this I know from my friend's ex-fiancee who was in the military. They aren't cheap either. http://www.ts2.pl/en/Internet-in-Iraq-and-Afghanistan.

I can give you the information, but I would prefer via PM

Please see this thread concerning "fake" military scammers and phones.

http://www.scamwarners.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4418

The latest trend involves trolling internet dating sites and convincing women that they are honorable Soldiers who have fallen in love and would do anything to communicate with the object of their affection.

But, because they are deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq, they need you to sign up for an expensive telecommunications service like "Military TELEX" in order to make that happen.

They profess unending love as their motivator and, unfortunately, many women have fallen for it.

Any request for fees (or a loan to be re-paid) to anyone you only know online is a scam.

I'm sorry if I was unclear, angelheart. TS2 is not a scammer creation, and we are well aware of that. What was created by the scammers is the scenario that they are REQUIRED for the scammer to keep in contact with you. The US military does not deploy any soldier for an extended period of time without some means of communication. He/she does not have to pay out of his own pocket for a sat phone to communicate with the outside world.

To be perfectly clear:

If you have an online relationship with someone supposedly in the US military that you have never met IN PERSON, and he/she asks or tells you to
-pay fees for a phone to communicate with him/her
-apply for his/her military leave
-pay a fee of any kind so he can visit you
THEN HE OR SHE IS A SCAMMER AND IS NOT AN AMERICAN SOLDIER

I like the things you wrote .In fact every woman on the Earth would be happy to hear such things...

I imagine the ideal relationship should be base on friendship and mutual respect and acceptance.....love and passion. With my future husband I would love to pray together in unity and bring lot of fruits because two can do much more then two singles ones.

However we live on different continents now. I hope its not a prolem..Have you ever been to NYC?

What kind of church do you attend?

I attend kind of the protestant church name" Kanaan".
In my church we do evangelization but this is not the main aim.....I would say one of the most important but as a church we concentrate on others activities and ministries too. I serve in the counseling ministry. As a church we founded the charity organization that helps in the orphanages on a volunteers work base.

I read a lot of Christian books and especially like: David Wilkerson, Joyce Meyer, Jack Frost, Dave Roberson,Rick Joyner,Benny Hinn.I watch via internet some programmes on TBN Channel or God TV

I am keen on nature and especially like observing the God wonderful taste in His creation and nature...I would love to live in the country or 30 -40 km from a city …

After less than a week of emails, the scammer decides to try the TS2 phone angle;

Hi Removed,
How are you doing?I am glad to read from you..I am a bit worried as i had a terrible news that my son ill..I will be off duty now i will check you back online later
Removed i dont know if you can help me with an phone order so i can have access to a phone here you will have to contact satellite communication company who provides US amy here a telephony service...
You will have to write to them that you want to purchase a phone service for me … That I can be able to speak to you and my little son for at least 10min in a day... The email is ts2@null,net while you let them understand that i am located in Camp Anaconda [Balad AB] iraq and my service number is Ako/e-7/ssgt/Tracy M Hayes/009 More importantly please write to find out how long. does it take to get to me but I am not just sure of how much its cost for the speedy delivery
