I talked to a girl named Bethany I met on the yocutie android app on August 25th. The profile stated she was 18 and from Fort Wayne, Indiana and upon our initial dialogue in the app, she asked to move the conversation to text so I gave her my number.
We had a basic, innocent conversation at first which consisted of the the typical "get to know each other type questions" and I found it quite peculiar that she claimed to be from South Carolina which is different from what I saw on her profile. I also noticed that she kept asking for pics. I didn't want to send any because it was rather late and I didn't want to take and send any photos of myself where I did not look decent.
She then goes on to say how she has something to tell me and confesses that she is 15. I didn't want to be mean so I said, that's alright but to keep the conversation decent. After talking a bit of random small talk, she sends a regular photo that I joke with her about the choice of hat she wore. We continue to share laughs and then she sneaks in an obscene photo which I immediately delete and tell her not to send me stuff like that. The conversation then dies down shortly afterwards.
We have no conversations after this point and on Wednesday, August 30th, I receive a text message and numerous calls from a man who claims to be her father who goes by the name Gary Summers. He stated how he and his wife discovered how I am having a dialogue with his 15 yr old daughter and that I need to call him to explain myself before his wife pursues and files an investigation on me through their local sheriff's department.
I am scared and paranoid so I send him a text apologizing and he replies back and suggests I speak to him over the phone. I call him immediately and he begins to tell me how he doesn't want to press charges due to the fact that he doesn't want to ruin his family's image in their community but his wife is aggravated and adamant in sending me to jail. I beg and plead with him and he tells me that I should send a text apologizing to his wife in hopes of convincing her to not call the investigator the following morning. I send a long apology in text and he calls me back after he supposedly spoke to his wife and tells me that they have agreed to not go to the authorities. He goes on to explain that they have all kinds of financial hardships with counseling for the daughter, medical bills, and days he missed from work dealing with this ordeal and goes on to suggest that all I would need to do is pay for the termination of their cellphone plan so they can start new.
I offer to pay the amount of $800 as this is what he said would be the estimated cost. I suggest that I can send the money to him via paypal but he goes on to say that he doesn't use it and prefers not to due to privacy concerns. Moneypak is what we agree upon as he told me that his wife is familiar with this method of sending money. I then tell him that I will get the money to him in the morning which is where I'm at right now.
I've been thinking and researching all night about this situation and had a slightly feeling as if something isn't right. After a bit of Googling, I found this site and feel like I've been duped! He's texting me as we speak asking if I am ignoring him and when I will send the moneypak. He already stated that he already canceled the appointment to speak with the investigator. A part of me is fearful and I want to just send him something just for my own assurance but another part of me wants to just block him like this thread suggests and hope that the police don't knock on my door.
I cannot post the profile because it seems to be deleted from the yocutie app.
The daughter's name is Bethany. The father is Gary Summers and the wife is Susan.
the number that they are contacting me from is 864-249-4131. It seems to be from South Carolina but I can't really find any information on it.
What should I do?
