Just as a matter of interest, the phone number 4077882121 resolves around Altamonte Springs,(in the area of Winter Park), Orange County, FL (Florida). The phone company shown is Embarq Florida, Inc.

These phones are Verizon blackberries and Verizon phones do not have sim cards. I really don't know how they can be used or even sold abroad. That may be why the previous woman had them in her house for almost 2 years. I was going to donate the clothes and shoes to charity until the police told me to send it back to the previous person. She has shared enough with me that I am totally convinced she is a victim too. If anyone knows a way these phones can go to charity, I'd like to do that. I think it's almost impossible since I don't know the origin and I assume, as everyone says, they were purchased with stolen credit cards. My scammer kept asking me to get credit cards for him in my name. I refused.
He hasn't tried to contact me in 2 days now, so I hope he's given up.

He didn't bother to change anything. This is somewhat amusing. He tried to contact me this morning (SMS) .."pls respond to me. Pls I BEG YOU IN THE NAME OF GOD!" As tempting as it is, I'm done dealing with Nigerians disguised as English men...and women.
by anita42 Sun Aug 14, 2011 1:03 pm
Another twist to this one. His other victim that I have contact with is getting calls from a cell phone in Ghana. I'm sure it's him. Here is the number: 233-243263537
I told her not to respond to any number she does not recognize. Any legitimate person will leave a message. All I could find out is that 233 is the Ghana country code and 24 is a cell phone prefix not attached to any region.

Thankyou anita42. Yes the best course of action is to stop all forms of contact with immediate effect.
Some people make the mistake of confronting or continuing dialogue with the individual which only gives the scammer more leverage. They are then able to make the next scam attempt harder to detect.
Scammers do not like or love you at all. They only love the money they think will be coming their way as it gets fleeced out of your pocket.
By dropping the subject like the hot potato, puts you on the front foot and the scammer is in dissaray.
If it causes you concern the scammer knows the phone number, are you able to acquire another phone number?
by anita42 Sun Aug 14, 2011 2:34 pm
I could change it if I have to, but it would be complicated because of businesses that have my number, so I'm waiting to see if he just stops soon. He attempts to contact me are slowing down. These calls from Ghana are not going to me, but to his other victim that I am in contact with. She was in contact with him much longer than me, at least 2 years. She said she has not answered these calls. She just asked me if I recognized the number. She said she has broken off all contact with him too. I will suggest to her that she should consider changing her number. My only friends abroad are in Western Europe and I will not answer a call from anyone I do not recognize and I know about those fake UK numbers now too. I am prepared for the fact he may crop up in other ways, even years from now. I have educated myself on this subject now, thanks to many of you here too, so this will not happen to me again.
by jolly_roger Sun Aug 14, 2011 3:16 pm
Yes that there lays the problem because it can be a huge inconvenience.
An idea that may be worth pursuing for the other lady victim. Perhaps contact her phone carrier company and briefly explain the situation. Perhaps the company could block her phone from receiving incoming calls from a particular number and / or locality. I'm sure if representation was made to them, some type of solution could be found without too much hassles.
by anita42 Sun Aug 14, 2011 3:37 pm
Thanks. I'll suggest that to her too.

I have learned how to track ip addresses but it's not working with this one. Can someone track this for me? It's from one of my scammers alternative ids. I have only removed the recipient's info. Thanks:

The reason it's not working is because the sender used gmail.

Gmail does not show originating headers--all emails from gmail will track to gmail's servers in California.

Here's the last email I received from my scammer. It's a fake forward. he was trying to get me to send money. I googled the name of this person and he's a local doctor from Lesotho and actually opened a (overpriced)medical school in Pretoria without a licence which was closed and he refused to reimburse his students. I'm sure my scammer made up this email address and wrote this message. The writing is very similar to his, only the English is a bit worse. I'm including the headers. It shows him in South Africa where he claims to be. Most of the emails show Nigeria though, when he was claiming to be in South Africa.

Hey justin, I arrived Lesotho and the internet was bad and i am also busy cos i can only do some things i come here for soon and come back to SA, Lestho boarder is still free, only that the immg can randonmly select to check few people, also the immigration do sometime check passengers to know if u do not have problem with SA govt before coming to pass thru Lesotho, so u may have to prepare to give them money. I also talk with a guy i know many years ago, he said you may have to give money to the immig when u want to depart because they may want to check u through SA immigration, so if you give them money, they will pass you here and u will not be check/pass by SA immigration again. So he said you should prepare to give them maybe 2500-3000$ with you because you dont know if you will need as much as that. I didnt know if you will do it or not, so i didnt tell him anything and since i dont have all the details from you, i guess that is all i found out for you.. but i will suggest you go with enough money if you are doing it.

If you come here to Lesotho before i come back to SA, please email me, maybe i can be of anyhelp

Thanks
Teboho

Based on the IP, it was probably sent from a cellphone. Most likely, he didn't travel anywhere--he either got his hands on a phone to send it, or he convinced another scammer who was in South Africa to send it.
