Scammers will often offer to fly their victims out to meet them. Only once over a period of several years have I ever encountered a scammer who did fly a victim somewhere, and he was using her as a money launderer and reshipper, and had a lot invested. (Plus the ticket was most likely paid for with a stolen credit card, as she had some difficulties at the airport.) All the rest of the scammers came up with convenient emergencies that prevented it.
It's a very typical tactic of romance scammers to show a lot of interest in their victims' children. I've encountered many who will even start referring to them as their own children, and have even convinced their victims to put the children on webcam, telling them that they are going to be their new dad. Every single time the scammer has focused on the child, it has been nothing more than a ploy to make himself look even more caring and sensitive, and to pull the victim even deeper into the scam. When the victim begins to doubt the relationship, the scammer can make her feel twice as guilty, because if she cuts him off, she risks hurting her child in addition to herself.
With that said, we still don't recommend baiting any scammer who has your real life information. While the risk of physical harm is actually extremely low, the risk of other kinds of retaliation does exist, and it's just not worth it.
Even a single email tracing to Lagos means you are most likely dealing with a young, black, Nigerian romance scammer. Everything else is most likely a proxy. If the location changed after you pointed out the differences in the IP's, that just means he started being more careful and switched to using a UK proxy full time.
