Sometimes it can be very difficult for a victim who is completely invested in a scammer relationship to see the truth. Occasionally a victim will join our forums, and what they post is reality as they want to see it, which is not always true. We are not there, and we can't verify some of these claims.
We don't want conflicting stories to lead to confusion and put someone else at risk, so I will reiterate the facts that ARE supported.
Facts we do know:1)
The person calling himself Steve Young, using an email address [email protected], is a romance scammer.2) The person's writing is consistent with an
African writer, and is not consistent with someone who has been in the US at any time. This is further supported by current dating site profiles and facebook page.
3) The scammer claims to be CEO of a company called Caltech. No such company exists. He has a FAKE facebook page that he created for his fictional company. The photos and text are stolen from legitimate websites.
4) He claims to have a beach home in Virginia. At different times he has claimed Alexandria (which is inland) and Virginia Beach. The Virginia phone number he has given does not trace to either town. It is not a cellphone number (as he has also claimed) The exchange is used by land lines and VOIP, which means it is most likely a VOIP number that can be answered anywhere in the world.
5) Phone listings in Virginia Beach show
no matches that would align with his claims. Neither do listings for the other places where he supposedly has homes.
6) An email with a tracer sent to him just a few hours ago shows him to be in Nigeria, and emails as far back as a year ago place him in Nigeria.
7) He claims to live in the US Virgin Islands, but then gives a location in the British Virgin Islands. NOT a mistake that someone living in the Virgin islands would ever make. So basically, he doesn't even know what country he is supposed to live in!
There's more, but I will stop at this.
All of these facts tell us:
A) We can be 100% certain he is a scammer
B) It is very highly likely that he is Nigerian (in which case he cannot be the person in the photos.)
