Information on romance scams and scammers.

What he did was went to youtube and found some video to create fake webcam. It is possible that the person in the photos has posted videos, but more likely he will have to settle for someone who looks similar.

Then he would use software that is often sold among scammers to edit that video and make it look like webcam ( with the right software, it's pretty easy to do.) He would then show you this fake webcam that he created. His "webcam appearance" would be very brief, because he would cut it off before you had time to realize that it (a) is not really live and (b) is a different man.

Unfortunately, this tactic has worked more times than I care to remember. We routinely have victims (both male and female) who are absolutely convinced that they are writing to the real person because they have been fooled by fake webcam.

Dotti,
I am really glad that you and your crew work so hard to keep this site updated.
Today I realized that my posts helped someone else that was contacted by the same scammer than me.
Thank you very much. Please keep up with all your good work. :=) :oh-joy:

Mmomsarum,

Well, yes... "he was so cute"!!! Thats the point of all this!!! :(
I must confess I was very sad at the beginning when I found out that he was a scammer!!! :|
We made so many promises!! And it is very confussing... How can a person takes advantage of
someone else like this...
I was heartbroken to know that everything was a big fat ugly lye!!!
But, got a lot of comfort also reading other people anecdotes here, since this site made me feel that I´m no idiot... he´s is the MOTHER F.....!!!

So tell me, how did you first realized he was a scammer... because of the weird request of impersonating his late wife?
Did you ever got on a video conference with him? did he ever asked you for money? so far he has not yet asked me for money. I know someone who knows (hahaha yes sound funny) but i do know somoene who knows someone in Kabul, and his friend tells him, they dont have cell phones nor access to their banking information, so know im kind of skeptical about him.. is him for real? or he is just a mother f..cker that could be 20 years old and plays to be this handsome guy and is so ugly that he needs to impersonate someone else? or worst, someone looking to do something worst?

@mmonsarum he is in Lago's Nigeria (West Africa). Everything he told you is a lie. That why he wanted the money sent to Lagos.

Dotti's earlier post:
Scammer can and will use fake captured videos to do cam or skype chats. These are also stolen from the internet.

What he did was went to youtube and found some video to create fake webcam. It is possible that the person in the photos has posted videos, but more likely he will have to settle for someone who looks similar.

Then he would use software that is often sold among scammers to edit that video and make it look like webcam ( with the right software, it's pretty easy to do.) Please do not tell the scammer he is posted here.

Mmonsarum,

I had quite a few flags, which I don´t know why I ignored.
You see, I met him at Badoo. And this site has GPS, it tells you where is the person that you are chatting to.
And badoo said he was at England. Then, also his bad english... is just that he went over the edge with his super duper cool curriculm... I mean, he was an Electromechanical Engeneer, who studied his Master Degree on Manchester!!!!!! So, I figured his english had to be do much better than Shakespeare!!! :laugh-s:
Then, one day he started saying he wanted to come meet me, but he had no way get into his account while he was in camp. That he needed me to pay for a leave permit... That´s when I said: ENOUGH!!

The man in the picture, is not him. The man in the picture has no idea somebody is using his pictures to scam people.

I was so angry at first because I spent so many hours talking to him.

But, anyway... at least he didn´t got any money from this.

and his friend tells him, they dont have cell phones nor access to their banking information,

Just to make sure this is clear: soldiers do have access to phones (and most DO have cell phones) and they DO have access to their bank accounts. Only in the imaginary land of African scammers is this not the case.
