Hi Kasi!

How to get email headers in AOL or AIM ?

If the email is sent from anywhere OTHER then AOL, and you are receiving it in AOL, then open the email you want to trace, or have your client open the email, and look for the link Details. This link is usually just below the To:email in the email message. If the email is sent from an AOL user to another AOL user then the Reverse AOL Screenname search can help deduce the source location.

Kasi wrote:Helen. How do I find the header? I have AOL and the email came from Gmail.

Kasi, because the email came FROM Gmail, headers will not tell us anything of value. If you receive scam emails from others using Yahoo or something other than Gmail, the headers do usually give us good information regarding the location the email was sent from.

Hi Kasi!
Thanks for posting that email. I'm sorry to say that the scammer is using a trick to hide the location of where he's sending the emails from.
The best thing to do now is to stop all communication and block him from your email. It's best if you don't tell him that you know that he's a scammer. Just quietly disappear.

by Kasi Thu Oct 27, 2011 10:08 pm
Thank you very much. I have already disappeared.

HI everyone! Lovely caterpillar here.

Let me just share my current experience... I have chatted with a so-called Sgt.Lewis Smith recently and claims to be in Afghan, and right away he said he fall in love with the pictures I have in tagged and he wants to know me and if everything goes fine we can settle down.

He sent me one 2 pictures of him. I asked him to send me another again to make sure that he is not a military scam and he said he wont send me another pictures of him because i dont care about the pictures that he send me before. I never told him that I saved it. And I am very curious already because he was so free to chat with me the whole day. Like he got nothing to do with work. Though I really dont know what a real soldier do, but if I will based on what I heard and seen from the news I dont think so a soldier will actually spend a lot of time in the internet and in fact he is using a yahoo address... he is chatting with me in yahoo messenger which I check from his profile its only activated not later than 5mos back and a resident in new york.

i remember he told me that he wanted to settle down in alabama. so i asked him where he is from again pretending that i forget what he told me and pretending that i never check his profile. so he said he is from alabama and i told him i thought u said ur from new york, and he said that im originally from alabama but i reside in new york. so i said ok and then we continue the conversation blah blah... i asked him for his pictures so many times and his excuses was the network is not good until im pissed of already and accused him that he is not real. So acted like whats wrong with me? he is coming home for christmas for his mom and visit me in singapore to just see him in person. so i said i want pictures. after a few minutes of arguing to pressure him to send me pictures, well he did send me again for another pictures and he send me the same pictures that he send before.

though on the pictures it says lewis, which match his first name... i am not really sure if he is only using the name and pictures of this guy... he is eager to see me on xmas because he said thats the only proof he have to make me believe that he is real. so i said ok.. then just talk to me once ur in the US with ur mom and i wanna do a webcam with u.

when he send me another pictures, im not sure if the link is pasted to the chat like this.. http://im002.shmessenger.org/eriwolex/Sgt2.jpg http://im002.shmessenger.org/eriwolex/Sgt3.jpg

he never do a photosharing with me like what he did in the first time we talked. when i saw shmessenger. i searched it, and found out it is an application from a mobile phone. ive contacted my friends who knows a lot of IT technology, so i asked is it possible that you used an SH messenger from your laptops and computers and they said no, you can download it from the computer but the application is for mobile phones... so i got curious again think that this person is using a mobile phone to chat with me thats why he cant do a photo sharing transfer or even a webcam.

Below is one of the pictures he sent to me... Pls do see if you recognized and if you can give help... I am not really sure who I am talking with because the entire day yesterday he was chatting with me from my time SG time, from 10am until 4pm in the afternoon which is he is very free as a soldier... and his english is quiet good however i noticed sometimes he have some grammatical errors which i sometimes think maybe a typo error but when i do check...like when he said "what a hell ure talking about", where in fact he could have said, "what the hell..", and some words like, he in lindston university.. it supposed to be he is... if you would think its a typo error, i dont think so because from the keybard, s is very from from n. so i would like to make sure who i am speaking with. and if he is not really lewis smith, i hope we can do something about this guy on the pic.. it is being abused...

I hope to hear from you very soon. It would be a great help! Thank you!

Hello lovelycatipillar!

From everything you have said so far this sounds like a typical military romance scammer. The picture you posted is very typical of the type they steal off the Internet and use to scam victims. It is just a matter of time before he ask you for money to buy a phone or to request leave. It's all lies just used to steal your money. Your suspicions are right. Please stop all communications with him. He will eventually give up and move on.

He is a scammer.

He is not coming to see you. He is only anxious to supposedly come see you, because he wants to use a "visit" as a reason to get money from you, most likely for imaginary leave fees.

As you thought, deployed soldiers do NOT have all day to sit around on the internet. They all have official military addresses too. And, I won't say what it was on the forum, because I don't want to educate scammers, but he made a major mistake with his made-up name too.

He is not getting on webcam for the simple reason that he is not the person in the photos, and he doesn't look anything like him.

Please drop all contact with this scammer immediately, and post his email address for other potential victims to find. It would help if you posted the early emails he sent you too.
