Yes, you can spoof a number. The scammer is doing this occasionally when he pretends to be Law Enforcement.

Okay so yesterday I get a match from this check and she messages me and whatever, anyways we get to texting and she asks for a pic of me so I send one and she sends one back, then we're talking and out of no where I get a pic of her topless. this whole time she says shes 18 then of course she asks one of me and I send it, and then she tells me that shes actually 17 and turns 18 on the 7th of this month. During the whole time her texting is pretty bad, no proper grammer and messes up on very easy things, some times it sounds like shes speaking like a caveman, and of course I was skeptical but kept on going with it. so then she sends me 2 more nudes and asking if Im single and just very direct and weird. Then after another brief and not good convo she stops texting all together for the night, and then in the morning doesnt text back either. Then I get a call out of no where in the afternoon, I miss it, and listen to the voice mail, and its a dude with a country draw talking about how hes "Missy's father" and he "saw the trash on her phone" and I need to "call him immediately," or hell "take her device and my info to law enforcement".
I immediately deleted all texts and everything having to do with her or that number, I deleted my POF account. Her profile is AllGold24 its a white girl with 3 pics, last 2 are somewhat revealing, its says shes for hangout and casual dating/no commitment. and her bio is short and kinda redundant.
The phone number I got a call from is Kentucky area code and I'm in Cali,

Im sure this is a scam but wanted to get advice of others to see if these numbers or something similar has happened to them.
Had a text a few days back saying we met on a chat line. (Not sure to tell the truth)
Later sent a couple texts back and forth. She then sent a very questionable pic that I promptly deleted. She stated she was underage a little bit after the pic.
The next day her "Dad" says her mother found the text and they have been fighting all day. Mom wants to call police but the "dad" wants to talk it out.
We talked on the phone for a min and he stated she damaged the house by putting holes in the walls and damaging a back door. Said he wants to keep the cops out of it but wanted to know if I would cover the damages to the house to a tune of $3200! I texted back and said no way. I never sent any pics or engaged in any wrong conversations. He then stated he is going to the police and that is the last I heard.
I did some research on the numbers and one comes back as a Voip number and the other was a cell number. Both generated from North Carolina.
Not sure what to do about this. I recently changed my number and blocked his number

Because of that post on page one I started to think it was a scam.
I ran numbers and cant find anything related to them as being a scam that's why I was a little worried.

Well you did not post any names, user names, where you met the girl, profile links, phone numbers and etc.

Nor, did you mention what the girl said her age was initially.

So, we can not help with the limited information you provided.

It was a text I received in the middle of the night and I dont remember where or even if I did meet her on a site or what not.
It was a few texts and she sent pics and she then stated she was 16. Thats when the "dad" stepped in and said I needed to cover the repairs to the house that she caused
The number he used was 980-330-6247
Hers was 980-223-9171
I called back his number and every now and then its a differant voice mail for a differant number
That number is 803-387-3613
Her name was supposedly Crystal. Never got a last name
In hind sight I should have NEVER answered the text

I'm not saying it's the same scammer as I had but the "girl" that I dealt with (social media / dating site) was also called "Crystal" and the number that I got texted by also originates from a North Carolina area code. (980-925-9676) Similar facts.

After texting for a day she stated she was. I never sent any pics or anything to her.
She said we met on a chatline a few days ago. I dont remember being on one so I cant say for sure.
After she said she was 16 I deleted everything and that is when the dad got involved.
I told him I never sent any pics or engaged in any conversation that was in appropriate.
He said it didnt matter. He said you were sent a pic of her so that is bad enough. thats when he wanted me to send some money.
I then blocked him.
I did some searches on the numbers but didnt come up with anything

She told me she was 16 after a day of texting her
When she texted me she said she got my number off of a chatline.
The only chatline I was ever on was live links.
I am sorry for the confusion.
