Star45 wrote:Hi so I think this is a scam but I am still unsure! So a couple of weeks ago I stared A online account on mingle2 and was contacted by a girl named Lisa! I gave Lisa my phone number and she said she was 30, after a few minutes without me asking she started to send me nude photos of her. She then asks for a nude photo of my and with out thinking I did it! Not the best idea, I know!! The next day I then get a call from "law enforcement" saying I need to talk to Mr. Patterson. So I call Mr Patterson and he says his daughter is actually 16 and that I need to pay $400 to replace there laptop that was destroyed! So I paid the amount and they said they would have no more contact with me. The next day they both call me and the officer said that Lisa slapped her mom and they had to take her to jail, and that Mr Patterson paid 1000 dollars and that I need to pay him back 500 or else they will come pick me up in 30-60 days! So I start paying him and then I just stoped and blocked all of their numbers! They are still trying to get a hold of me! But I saved Mr Patterson number as a contact in my phone and I bring up snap chat and it says that the owner of that number is James Fowler which is the name of the cop that called me. They actually sounded alike at times! My thinking is that Mr Patterson is not real and Lisa was not real and the pictures are stolen! Also Mr Patterson called and texts from the number that "Lisa" sent nudes on. Here are the numbers: Mr Patterson and Lisa number: +1 (361) 445-6581, officer: +1 (470) 303-0006, and another number that Patterson had was: +1 (314) 580-4592! Now Patterson and Lisa phone has an area code of Missouri and the the officers number was an area code of Florida. And "Lisa" told me that she lived in Texas and moved to Kansas. I do believe it's a scam but I am so scared right now!!

Just had this exact case today. What was the outcome for you?

Don't pay them anything. If your in the US every county has a Legal Aid Society where you can make inquiries and be guaranteed confidentiality. These are FAKE PROFILES using stolen photos. This is a well documented scam . Do your research and report it .

I was stupid enough to friend this person because of the mutual contacts. I did send a video and she has it and now wants money sent to someone named Andrew Miller on the Ivory Coast. She says she lives in St. Louis Missouri. Besides deleting accounts what else can I do.

Deactivate your online profiles . Ignore / Block any of their communications via email or telephone . Set up a google alerts on any info they may have on you and don't send potentially embarrassing photographs/videos to people you just met on the internet .

https://www.google.com/alerts

Engaging in video Skype / Messenger conversations with strangers is the same as sending them videos . Skype can be recorded .

I think this happened to me. I was on a Skout app. Started communicating with a guy whose profile said he was 25 and in wichita kansas. he asked to exchange phone numbers. He sent me a text stating he was from the app. we had a conversation for a while. He sent an explicit pic. The next day he messaged me again. . . asked if I could send him one. Not thinking anything of it, I did. Roughly 3.5 hours later, i missed a phone call from "him." So I replied stating I couldnt talk at the moment. 10 minutes later I received a message from the phone number telling me it was the father, Mike, calling me by my full name name (I had never given my full name out to anyone) saying he needed to get to the bottom of the situation wanting to know why I was sending explicit pics to his 15 year old son. I had managed to get a screen shot of the profile before it was deleted and sent it to the caller explaining I was not talking to a 15 year old, but to this person and didn't know what in the world he was talking about. The caller stated he had spoken with a buddy of his in the police department and convinced him to hold off on pressing charges so he could get to the bottom of this. The supposed father stated he would need to speak with his wife on whether she wished to pursue charges and would call me back. A few minutes later, the man had called me back stating his wife agreed to look past this incident so long as i replaced the work computer the "son" was caught using, I agreed and the man told me the cost of the lap top was 1400, but since his son was at fault he would pay half if I would pay the other half. I agreed but explained I didn't have 700, only had a partial payment. The man agreed to take the partial payment so long as I sent the remaining balance the following Friday. Stupidly I agreed and sent what I could. The next day I ran across this thread and reading through the first post and the rest on the following pages it all sounded exactly like what had happened to me. Still scared for obvious reasons, I wanted to confirm this was actually a blackmail scam. I deactivated all my social media accounts, and blocked the two numbers I received calls from because the man with a heaving sounded accent tried calling me back and texting when I didn't send the remaining balance. He was threatening to go to his police buddy if he did not receive the balance due by that day. My number has been changed now. Stupid me did not realize the numbers texting me were not Kansas numbers but were from South Carolina (the "sons" numbers was 864-378-1804 and the "fathers" number was 843-359-0251).
