Is this a scam? I meet a guy on a gay dating website who says he serving in Afghanistan and gives me a yahoo email account and wants me to set up a yahoo Messenger account he is 43 and says he is looking for a serious relationship. He deleted his profile of the gay dating website and say its because he only wants me but I am suspicious.

solider: Ok..

I just found out that several of my photos were being used by scammers (again) to try to get people to send money.
To anyone who has been ripped off: I apologize for what's happened to you. I have reported MANY profiles and sites to try to get my image taken down but it seems like they just pop back up every few months.

I'm sorry that you have also been impacted by these scammers. It's unfortunate that you have to deal with it at all, but as you have obviously figured out, once scammers have your photos, they will continue to use them as along as they bring them money. And, unfortunately, for every one you find, there are probably 10 more out there--on dating sites that are not indexed by google, behind logins, etc.

I like what you have done there with your proactive approach to warning. Unfortunately, not everyone realizes that a proactive approach is best for both the owner of the photos and the victims being targeted. If victims can search your photos and find they are being scammed, they will not send money. As more and more victims learn to look for the photos they are sent, the number of victims who send money to scammers using easily searchable photos will decrease significantly. If they stop sending money, the scammers will move to the next scam. After a while, if the scammers realize that your photos are not bringing in money because they are being recognized by targets, they will stop using them and move on to photos that are less easily identified by victims.

Of course, in an ideal world, this wouldn't be necessary, because all the scammers would be in jail--but we know that right now this isn't a realistic possibility.
