I get that it's a scam. I've taken the steps, reported it. Closed social media, etc.

Just curious, did anyone have them act like a federal agent or member of ICAC? I see everyone else saying detective or pi.

Thanks for saving me money. Also this was a good lesson to learn, no more sketchy dating sights.

is this a scam?

son came home from school hysterical claiming he was getting text messages and phone calls from San Jose California claiming to be the step father of a minor my son has been sending pictures to. He told him he wanted his information and if he did not get it he would have him arrested and then he sent a picture of a cop car to try and scare him. He gave me the number 408-595-4455 and I texted the guy and then called him and he said that his wife who lives in Alabama has all the videos and pictures and that he would call her to have her call me. It took over an hour and this lady named Crystal started telling me all of this stuff about it being her 12 year old daughter and it had been going on for over a year and when we told her he is 17 she continued to say she did not want to ruin his life and all but her daughter is traumatized and continued on saying she had an attorney. She then mentioned she is a single mom without any insurance and a deadbeat ex husband and does not know how she is going to pay for the therapy and it continued. We talked for a while and kept apologizing to see if we couldget more information from her and then she did say if she had to go to the attorney to get paperwork drawn up in order for us to pay for therapy. She initially did not want to speak with my son but later on at the end of the conversation she asked if she could speak with him later in the evening but would text me and then call. At the time we said sure but she never called. We firmly beleive they were going to scam/blackmail us into paying for fake therapy.

The number Crystal called from was 205-994-0499

The husband who Crystal said was not her husband but a family friend who worked for the San Jose PD called from a number 408-595-4455.

I blocked both numbers but have not heard from them since.

Where did he meet the girl?

How old did she tell him she was?

A lawyer can not make you pay for therapy. Only a civil judge can.

How do they want payment?

Supposedly he says he met her on ChatRandom or Chat Roullete, he said they did not discuss age but then the next day he asked her and she said 12 and he never chatted with her again. This is what he is telling us. The lady said she has videos, pictures and texts and he swears up and down they only chatted day in either April or May of this year.

They never said anything about us paying for it, my wife was on the phone with them and we were totally freaked out and we offered to help with therapy before it was mentioned and then she continued to bring it up during the conversation. At the end of the conversation she said she would call us back later but she never did. I am hoping she figured he was a minor at the time of the conversation and knew better than to screw with him or felt some form of sympathy. Either way we have not heard back from them since last evening at around 530 our time.

This computer I'm on is not allowing me into chatroulette.

But I did find mentioning of the TOS (Terms of Service for both sites.

Noticing a new TOS on the site (stating you had to be 18 or older:

I do not know what to do but I told him it was a scam but his butt is in some deep crap right now, and pretty much in solitairy confinement. I will deal with it as a parent and keep him shielded as well as my wife but I have blocked their numbers. Do you think it is a scam or blackmail? I also mentioned myself being in the military not that they care about that. I do have one other question, he sent me a screen shot of the texting they were supposedly doing and my sons number shows up on his screen with a +1-###-###-#### is that something normal or something someone overseas would see to identify the country of origin?

my biggest fear here is that it is not a scam because we have not heard back from them even after we offered to pay for her therapy, I mean we were rype of the picking. She said she wanted to talk to my son but would text me later to see if it was okay to call and then call but she never did. Maybe they are doing something legal? It is driving my wife and I nuts.
