Information on romance scams and scammers.

If they are doing something legal then money can't stop it.

We have seen cases where the scammer has sent fake therapy bills and fake document from fake lawyers.

Any money request through untraceable methods is a sure sign.

If someone calls or text acting as an LEO/Private Investigator and demands you get in touch with the mother or step father it is a scam.

Your gut tells you this is extortion of some form or another though?
by Bryon Williams Thu Jun 01, 2017 6:01 pm
This can take days to weeks to play out.

There has not been the money request. So, currently its not blackmail.

We have seen versions of this scam.

It just has not played out yet.

Did you read page one the first post??

What about the +1 in front of my sons number from the page he sent me?
by Terminator5 Thu Jun 01, 2017 7:28 pm
The + sign denotes international long distance . The 1 is the country code for the USA . The number was not written like anyone from the USA would write it .

So if the individual took a snapshot of what he had on his end does that prove my son's text was going to an international location?

Hey y'all I got a similar situation but there's like one or two differences so I just wanna make sure my thinking is right that it's a scam.

So i got a message from this girl on okcupid (Misty was here name) saying I was cute as hell so i checked her profile and it said 19 from John's Island SC, she had one pic on the profile and a one sentence profile description and was looking for men from anywhere from 18-55 i believe. Anyway I stupidly replied and just said thanks you too then she replies about two days later and wants to text so i get her number and say hey and her first pic is a selfie with a low cut shirt and she says shes wet and we exchange a few more texts and then some pics and once we're done she says shes going to sleep she really me were gonna be friends for a long time (it was about 3pm) . This all happened on saturday (May 27th) and then i dont here back from her till yesterday. I got a call from her number than one long text sent in five smaller texts that read this:

"Sir, this is Mr. Smith misty's father. You got some nerve sending these nasty pictures to my daughter. She's only 15 years old. She is a fucking child! A minor! You got 10 minutes to call and explain to me why a grown ass man like you are sending these disgusting picture to an underage girl or im contacting the police and having a warrant issued for your arrest. You will be charge with soliciting, sexual exploitation with a minor, indecent exposure and possession of child pornography. Sir if you don't want to go to ail or be registered as a sex offender for the rest of your life, I suggest you call ne ASAP. You got 10 minutes."

That's exactly how it was written spelling errors and all, and I got a second call two hours after that one but nothing else since. Any help or ideas to ease my mind would be very helpful since like I said this isn't exactly what happened to others I've read. The number they used was (864) 497-1951. Also i didn't answer or reply to any of this.

Scam . It has all the essential elements of previous scams posted here :

Adult profile over 18

Aggressive Sexting

Later claims of being under age and demands for FAKE damages are made .

Can you post a link to this Fake Profile so we can look at it ?

I found myself involved in this scam as well. I was bored, and answered a post on craigslist (post has since been deleted). The girl, Jessica, claimed to be 19. She asked me for my number right away, which I gave her. We then chatted back and forth for a bit when she out of the blue asks how big my X is. I kind of laughed it off saying she could find out in person. She asks for a few pictures, which I provide. She sends a few as well. We chat back and forth for awhile about random things, nothing dirty. She just asks me about myself (where I live, work, hobbies, etc). I dont really give any major information, just keep it pretty vague. She then suddenly sends me some explicit pictures. One of them has a watermark in the corner. Red flags go off. I'm bored though, so I play along to see where this is going.

We continue to chat and flirt. She disappears at random times and has weird excuses for her absence (was in the shower and didnt turn her phone on all afternoon for example). She keeps asking for naughty pictures of me, which I don't send. Too many red flags for me.

The next day she suddenly says that shes 16, and about to turn 17 in a few weeks. I was an idiot and continued to talk to her due to boredom and loneliness (and curiosity on what was really going on). I tell her we should just be platonic friends but we can still chat. She then sends more explicit pictures at which point I tell her that she shouldnt be sending those due to her age. She seems confused on why I have an issue with it and stops talking to me.

The next morning I get a phone call from her, but wasnt able to answer it because I was at work. A few minutes later, I receive a text message from her phone. Its from a Timothy Neely, claiming to be her dad and needs to talk to me before his wife gets a hold of the phone and goes to the cops. I freak out and call him. He sounds southern, and black, despite his daughter being white. He is quite angry at first and asking why I am trying to hook up with his daughter who is a minor. He then explains how his daughter was at school and was in the principles office and kicked a glass door. She now has to go to counseling and his wife is freaking out. He says that I sound like a nice guy and will talk to his wife about the situation. He then has me wait for him to call back. He calls back about 5 minutes later and says that if I send him $2800 to cover the cost of the door and therapy, then he wont go to the police. I ask him how does he want the money, and he directs me to send it to a Becky Neely (the wife) in South Carolina via walmart moneygram or western union. I tell him I need 24 hours to get the money. He said he will be calling me tomorrow to confirm payment.

I am totally freaking out at this point. I knew I was getting trolled from the beginning, but never expected this. I am seriously concerned about my career and life. Suicide even went through my mind. I get home and start looking things up. I know I am getting blackmailed so I start looking into that. Thank goodness I found this page. After reading all 56 pages on this thread, I feel much better. I am glad I never sent any pictures. I am really glad I never sent money. I am still stressed of course.

I deleted my email account that I used for craigslist. I disabled my facebook (he has my full name somehow, though I never gave it). I will be making some reports as well.

He is scheduled to contact me tomorrow, and I will update this with anything new that develops. I wont respond in any way to him or his contacts.

TLDR:
- Jessica on cragslist
- uses phone number 843-816-3805
- claimed to be 19, then after sending explicit pics, said shes 16
- Timothy Neely claims to be dad
- wants $2800 to be sent to Becky Neely of South Carolina to cover therapy and cost of broken glass door

Once again, I cant thank the people on this site enough. Even though I now know this is a scam, I am still horribly shaken up. Lesson learned: dont play games with an obvious troll.
