I found myself involved in this scam as well. I was bored, and answered a post on craigslist (post has since been deleted). The girl, Jessica, claimed to be 19. She asked me for my number right away, which I gave her. We then chatted back and forth for a bit when she out of the blue asks how big my X is. I kind of laughed it off saying she could find out in person. She asks for a few pictures, which I provide. She sends a few as well. We chat back and forth for awhile about random things, nothing dirty. She just asks me about myself (where I live, work, hobbies, etc). I dont really give any major information, just keep it pretty vague. She then suddenly sends me some explicit pictures. One of them has a watermark in the corner. Red flags go off. I'm bored though, so I play along to see where this is going.
We continue to chat and flirt. She disappears at random times and has weird excuses for her absence (was in the shower and didnt turn her phone on all afternoon for example). She keeps asking for naughty pictures of me, which I don't send. Too many red flags for me.
The next day she suddenly says that shes 16, and about to turn 17 in a few weeks. I was an idiot and continued to talk to her due to boredom and loneliness (and curiosity on what was really going on). I tell her we should just be platonic friends but we can still chat. She then sends more explicit pictures at which point I tell her that she shouldnt be sending those due to her age. She seems confused on why I have an issue with it and stops talking to me.
The next morning I get a phone call from her, but wasnt able to answer it because I was at work. A few minutes later, I receive a text message from her phone. Its from a Timothy Neely, claiming to be her dad and needs to talk to me before his wife gets a hold of the phone and goes to the cops. I freak out and call him. He sounds southern, and black, despite his daughter being white. He is quite angry at first and asking why I am trying to hook up with his daughter who is a minor. He then explains how his daughter was at school and was in the principles office and kicked a glass door. She now has to go to counseling and his wife is freaking out. He says that I sound like a nice guy and will talk to his wife about the situation. He then has me wait for him to call back. He calls back about 5 minutes later and says that if I send him $2800 to cover the cost of the door and therapy, then he wont go to the police. I ask him how does he want the money, and he directs me to send it to a Becky Neely (the wife) in South Carolina via walmart moneygram or western union. I tell him I need 24 hours to get the money. He said he will be calling me tomorrow to confirm payment.
I am totally freaking out at this point. I knew I was getting trolled from the beginning, but never expected this. I am seriously concerned about my career and life. Suicide even went through my mind. I get home and start looking things up. I know I am getting blackmailed so I start looking into that. Thank goodness I found this page. After reading all 56 pages on this thread, I feel much better. I am glad I never sent any pictures. I am really glad I never sent money. I am still stressed of course.
I deleted my email account that I used for craigslist. I disabled my facebook (he has my full name somehow, though I never gave it). I will be making some reports as well.
He is scheduled to contact me tomorrow, and I will update this with anything new that develops. I wont respond in any way to him or his contacts.
TLDR:
- Jessica on cragslist
- uses phone number 843-816-3805
- claimed to be 19, then after sending explicit pics, said shes 16
- Timothy Neely claims to be dad
- wants $2800 to be sent to Becky Neely of South Carolina to cover therapy and cost of broken glass door
Once again, I cant thank the people on this site enough. Even though I now know this is a scam, I am still horribly shaken up. Lesson learned: dont play games with an obvious troll.
