I met a "army" guy on a dating website [email protected] and as things progressed he wanted to ask for leave time to meet me. Well he said I had to email this address [email protected] so that they could confirm who he was going to see. Then I get this emai:

Attn:

Dear ma,

APPLICATION FOR THE LEAVE GRANT OF OFFICER CURTIS JOHNSON

I am CAPT. David Watson, Human Resources Officer of Transit Grant Section, Benefit Department of the US. Army, this is to inform you that your request concerning Officer Curtis Johnson was received and the request has been forwarded to the Director of personnel D.O.D for processing authorization.

Leave and liberty pass shall be granted as soon as I get the processing authorization from the Director of Personnel D.O.D due to the leave and Liberty pass policy.

Kindly complete the attached Milicompt Form and send back the scanned copy via email for leave processing according to your request and also for record keeping.

US MILITARY ATTORNEY

CAPT. DAVID WATSON

I didn't fill out the form or send it back since it sounded fishy. After I told him I had doubts and was going to ask my brother who are in the military about it he told me that is the way they did it at their base and that I would be getting grant money to fill it out. Just want to make sure about him. In my gut I know the answer already.

Yes, listen to your gut because it IS a scam!

Military CANNOT have girlfriends or any one else request leave for them, nor would leave be requested from someone using a free email address such as diplomats.com

Military DO NOT pay for their leave, it is automatically earned by their service each year.

I'm sorry that you were hoping he was legit, but he's not. I'm glad that you saw the red flags before you lost any money, though. Thank you for posting the information to warn others!

The lad calling himself David Watson is West African, there is no such word as "milicompt", and no one outside the military can request leave for someone in the military. It is a scam.
