Hello reddnrowl, and welcome to ScamWarners.

This is definitely a scammer - in reality, you cannot apply for leave for a soldier, and a soldier's leave does not require a fee to be paid.

We may be able to tell you where this scammer is truly located by looking at the headers of one of his emails. If you are unsure how to find the headers to post, please just state which email account you are using (eg Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc), and we can tell you how to locate them.

As Chris said, this is just a low life scammer, who probably enjoys making you believe he's someone you can admire and respect, but really his only interest is getting hold of women's money. So instead of being faithful and brave he's nothing but a blood sucking leech who is seeking to exploit troops fighting abroad. He's a disgrace to the male species and the human race in general.

He also has the IQ of an idiot to believe that you learn bomb disposal at school.

Apart from what Chris says about troops being unable to apply for leave and not having to pay anything to get it, a real soldier does get paid and has little expenditure in a war zone, and would be far too proud to beg money from a woman. Scammers have no such scruples.

The minute one of these imposters hits on you for money or consumer electronics, his cover is blown.

The photos may have been taken from any website, including somebody's personal website, and possibly years ago, and therefore the originals may not even be online any longer.

Unfortunately, as the scammer would have been using a fake name, an untraceable email address, and, probably, a PC hired in an internet café, it will be impossible to trace who he really is. But, even if it were possible to find him, it would still be extremely difficult to bring any legal action against him, as he will be living in a different country from yourself, and his own local law enforcement may be either powerless or simply disinterested.

You can, of course, still report the situation to your own local police, and they may include it in their statistics - but also they may tell you that, if you didn't send the scammer any money, then no crime has actually occured.

You have already done the best thing: you have posted the scammer's email address and an example of one of his emails. And now, if any other woman receives emails from him, and googles his email address or a line from his email (as he likely sends the same 'script' to other women too), they will find what you posted and be warned that he is a scammer.

And that way, you will have saved other women from losing money to this thief ... and breaking their hearts over him too.

As Chris said, you did the best thing. Now, be sure NOT to close down the account. If you do, that won't help at all, because all the work on putting the scammer on the web would be wasted.
