(but the name on the account was Thomas Hughes)

This person also tried to scam me. He uses the name Thomas Hall. You can find him on Facebook right now as Thomas Wynne.

I thought it was strange that he was talking love in the first couple of weeks and sending me poems that he claimed were his own. I looked them up online and this “If it is meant to be, our hearts will find each other when we meet. And if our hearts melt together so will our bodies and souls. Then every word and every touch will fuel our passion flame. I will be yours, you will be mine, and we will be one. If you love someone, do not put their name in a heart because hearts can be broken, instead put their name in a circle, because circles go on forever” happens to be two separate quotes from http://www.lovingyou.com.

I wondered about his grammar. Aren’t engineers intelligent? If so, then why would he be using sentences like “will wish you been here with me, hun.” And signed one of his emails “your Lovely Thomas”.

One more thing I noticed. There is NO punctuation in the emails. None. No breaks for a new sentence with periods. - I just goes on and on again like the song that never ends it will drive an educated person nuts the spelling is horrible – I’ve also noticed that SOME words are in caps right in the middle of a sentence, like he/she/it copy and pasted it from somewhere.

He said he was from the states but then went on to tell me that he was working in Africa as an engineer. BIG CLUE RIGHT THERE!!!!! Isn’t that where all the scammers are from? NIGERIA????

It makes me sick. I would call the Nigerian authorities but I hear they are just as scummy as men/women like this.

I guess the only thing to do is educate people about it?

BEWARE! EDUCATED PEOPLE DO NOT TYPE LIKE MORONS!!!!

Hi Ariel, welcome to Scamwarners.

I am glad that you realised it's a scammer before losing any money, everything you have identified is typical of scammers.

I do need to pick you up on a couple of points though;

Many scammers come from Nigeria however, many scammers come from other parts of the world too, many Nigerians are against what scammers do because of the bad reputation it gives the whole of the country.

Not everybody who "writes like a moron" is a scammer either, a Nigerian based scammer will write very much like a non scamming Nigerian, we can usually tell which are the scammers by the lies we can pick up and inconsistencies in their stories, the writing style can be a good clue to a scam if the person has suggested they are an American for instance and as you point out, especially if they are (supposedly) in an occupation that requires a reasonable amount of intelligence.

There are people who live in Western societies who have poor English and grammar as well who are not scammers and there are also scammers operting from Africa who are very intelligent and dont make those same gramatical mistakes
