Information on romance scams and scammers.

I want to trace the IP address of a scammer who's been emailing me. I've already named and shamed him, inc photos, on this and other websites.

I'm using Windows Live - incoming emails are @hotmail.co.uk.

Everthing I've found on the net says to open the message and use Actions to reveal message source but I get an error message saying:

Internet explorer cannot download GetMessageSource.aspx from .........
Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found.

Right clicking on the message, without opening it, does not work either.

Any advice ? I already know this guy's a scammer but the more proof I can get, the more I can help others.

Thanks

Standard procedure is to open the mail and in the upper right corner by the date of the mail it says 'actions' then 'view message source', just like you described. However, there are some people that have had difficulties with getting the headers this way. I've contacted Microsoft about the issue, this was their reply:
Hi,

We have received numerous similar reports about this problem and passed them on for research to the Windows Live Product Specialist Team.

This team will investigate the problem and discover possible causes, after which they will create solutions for this. These solutions will be tested thoroughly to make sure they don't cause new problems.

Solving your problem has our highest priority but unfortunately I cannot tell you how long it will take before a solution is available.

Thank you very much for your patience while we are solving this issue.

Regards,

...so most likely you're having the same problem as some others. Unfortunately, at the moment there is no way to get around the problem until Microsoft fixes it. :|

Hotmail can be collected using a POP3 client such as Outlook Express. Instructions here.
Worth a try? I've googled without finding any reports of anyone trying it.
Note Check OE for a setting to leave mail on the server. The default setting is to delete it.
