I got scammed by this profile on Love Struck Hong Kong (http://www.lovestruck.com/hongkong/) dating website for USD13,000 using MoneyGram (send from Hong Kong to London) in July 2015. He was leading me into potential money laundering of USD1.7 million.

"His" phone number used are:

99% of the conversation was done by Whatsapp and one failed attempt to talk on the phone before making the 2nd remittance. (Looks like they deliberately jammed the line to make it inaudible to hear "his" voice to hide that he is not really a native English speaker)

But whenever he has to demand me money he texted me on Whatsapp to tell me that he sent me an email and wanted me to reply as soon. You can see that English in these letters are perfect however his English on Whatsapp was poor.




1st email from the scammer from the destination of his "business trip" in Germany: 13/07/2015

How was work today? I have had a busy day engrossed with meetings with suppliers, phone calls and meetings with workers. I have a an assistant who takes care of things as well. I love what I do because it is very relative, I meet a lot of people and it helps in learning about different cultures and perceptions of individuals who are of a different race and culture. It gets boring at times and really busy at peak periods. I don't have any reasons to complain, like they say '' busy is good'' I always loved to work, after I lost my dad it became imperative that I carry on like he did and I have never looked back.

It was a tough experience to lose both parents, when you have parents who taught you the very reason for existence then I am sure you can pull through any situation. I think everything happens for a reason and we can not really control or affect them. I am motivated to know more about businesses and cultures all over the world, thus the reason for my choice of business. I have had my share of flings and short relationships; I want to have something I can build for a life time. When I was growing up I always saw the kind of friendship and love that existed between my parents, I want to have something greater than that. I am really eager to communicate more and see where it leads when we finally meet.

I am not perfect nor do I want the pressure associated with being so. I am seeking a life-long partner, friend, and confidante. Loyalty and Trustworthiness have never been issues in my relationships, in my personal life, as well as business, my ethics and morals cannot be questioned. I will often seek, value, and respect your opinion on many issues, regardless of their significance. I am habitually early, I would enjoy preparing dinner for you more often than you for me! I overdress, more often than not. I can make slow dancing in the living room as romantic as an evening in Paris. I think it is important for partners to be able to trust each other, without that, it just seems like everything falls apart. 2nd email from the scammer now he is in "London" to "sort out the crisis with the forwarder": 15/07/2015

What an email, I am so glad we have come this far and we will be able to discuss extensively about your email when we eventually meet. How are you doing today? I have had a sleepless night trying to talk to my Bank and a friend about the outcome of my meeting with the freight forwarder in London, we were able to reach an agreement on both containers. The bill of lading forms were provided and all the necessary paperwork were put in place pending when the Basic Ocean Freight is made available. I encountered an issue with the process as a result of my inability to make available to the freight forwarder the total shipment cost which consists of various components: a basic rate, mandatory surcharges and extra services. The declining state of the Euro against the dollar and the ongoing European crisis doesn't help businesses receiving contracts in Euro and incurring costs in dollars, about 5 to 10 percent of contract value is lost as a result of exchange rate instability.

I have to make available to the freight forwarder as well as the haulage company the sum of $185,000.00, I was able to come up with a $100,000.00 and an additional $65,000.00 from my financial institution as credit facility. This implies that I still have a balance of $20,000.00. I was able to make available another $14,400.00 via credit card, leaving me with a balance of about $5,600.00. I have tried to raise this amount but my efforts did not yield any results, I could not get a proper sleep because of this disturbing situation. The containers are being loaded at the port of origin, I need to obtain the bill of lading and forward it to the bank as proof of contract fulfillment before the financial intuition covering the contract can make the total contract sum available to my company. The bill of lading is a legal document between the shipper and the carrier detailing the type, quantity and destination of the items. The bill of lading also serves as a receipt of shipment when the items is delivered to the predetermined destination.

I am really sorry for involving you in this situation, I have to garner enough courage to inform you about my situation, Please do not be offended with all I have said, I think as a friend I should let you know what my situation is and please be civil in your response. I am seeking for a loan to cover for the balance amount, I want to seek your assistance and I pledge to refund the full amount with interest if you so please. I will be able to refund the amount back to you by Friday next week. I have never been in this situation before, I had to incur additional cost in making repairs to the storage facility and this affected my budget negatively.

Email from the scammer asking me for more money. He was "suppose to come back to finally meet me" the day before my departure to my holiday destination. A typical (now I look back!) "series of events preventing us to meet!" situation: 17/07/2015

Hope your night was good, I have not slept since yesterday, the feeling of disappointment and the inability to express my feelings to you regarding what transpired yesterday had been tormenting me. I feel so stressed and morose, I am beginning to think I might require some medical attention.

A new development came up yesterday, the freight forwarder told me the local authority impounded my containers and that his personnel was unable to access the containers to enable them process the shipping papers. I called and I was informed that I had to make payment for the local council Tax.

I was asked to make available 28000 EUROS for the council tax, I was able to negotiate with them and they accepted that I should make available 14,000 EUROS while the balance should be paid within 21 days. I have contacted my lawyer and he will be going to the local council office today, I have tried my best to raise this amount all to no avail. I am coming to you this last time to assist me, I know it is hard for you but can you please try for me?

I know you have fears and your worries, please be assured I will remit everything back to you and ensure it never reoccur. I have also made plans to fly down wherever you are, if it means we will not be able to catch up in HK before you depart. Please get back to me via whatsapp.

Last attempt to get money from me or trying to get me involved in money laundering of USD1 million.
During the period of the 2nd email and this 3rd email I was away from home travelling for two weeks, which the period "nothing" happened or developed on his side of course, he was still "stuck" in London waiting for cash to come in. But as soon as I came back from my holiday, he started telling me he is unwell then as soon, I received this one.

How are you doing today, hope your day went well? The doctor came yesterday with the result and it does not seem to be a good one. The doctor said I have Peritonitis and surgery is highly needed. I am really worried now, I have a troubling situation with my contract and now a health issue is likely to follow. He advised me to be calm and prepare any possible time for surgery. I am in a dilemma right now, I am really confused, you are one of the closest persons to me right now and I have to always inform you about any development. There is some good news, a client in China promised to pay about US $1.7m from the total funds he currently owes me, the only catch is that I have to be in china to sign the papers, the only issue here is that the doctor advised me not to engage in any long flights till the surgery is done. I am even more scared with this warning, I am meeting with him again today to determine the best dates for the surgery to enable me move on with my life.

I am going to need your help in this situation, I have spoken to my client in China about the possibility of delegating someone to sign the papers, they confirmed it is very possible. I do not trust my assistant enough, I had really bad experiences with assistants in the past and I do not want to involve myself in any mess. I have been thinking about someone to delegate then you came into my mind, I can trust you to do this for me. I am making an appeal to you, can you help me visit china to sign the papers then return the next or even same day? There is also another option, if you can help me with another loan for the surgery, I can travel to china after the surgery then sign the papers and move on with life peacefully.
