Information on romance scams and scammers.

I have been talking to a suppose Military person and he has asked me to send a request for Leave so he can come to meet me for my Birthday this coming week. Now, I have been reading the posts and also I know Fiancees/Family/ etc can't request a leave for Soldiers, they have to file the Leave request themselves through their proper military channels. I'm too Analytic and if something does not sound right I start researching.

He gave me his name as Tom Peterson, [email protected]. He said I should email the leave request to [email protected]. I met him on the dating site love2meet.com. I'm sure that if he's not real, oviously he may be using the Real Tom Peterson's name to scam me.

He says that his a Captain with the Conflict Resolution Unit (C.R.U.) of UN Military, Stationed at the camp in Abuja capital of Nigeria. (fishy)

I have contacted the Army to find out about the email [email protected], but they have not gotten back to me.

Could you tell me if I'm about to be scammed? I was almost scammed twice by two other people I met on the same site in the last 2 months. I just need to know now, so that I can take action and block him from my yahoo email. Please help!!

Hi Welcome to SW... :)

You are right to be suspicious, in fact you have answered your own query !

Soldiers DO NOT have to get their leave in the way you are describing, please drop all contact and just ignore the scammer he will go away if you ignore him.

If you wish you can email me at
[email protected]

The Army does not use addresses ending in usa.com. It uses addresses ending in .mil. Please post the emails he sent in case someone else is suspicious and googles a phrase in them.

Of course the major problem is that there isn't any United Nations deployment in Nigeria, not even of African troops, let alone any Western personnel.

I won't indicate where it's possible to verify this information otherwise scammers will use it as a source to make their future scams more plausible.

He's either a deserter who has badly lost his bearings or, more likely, a Nigerian kid hanging out in a bar sending out scam mails wanting you to pay his bar bill.

CAR ADVERTS - If a car seller mentions escrow - he's scamming you Never ever for any reason pay anything until you have seen and inspected the vehicle
