Havard Chapelle Rudduck, also registered on the same dating site, Fish Dating using the same photo, but called Stanley. This one claims to be a Staff Sargeant in the US Army, currently stationed in Kabul, Afghanistan. Right from the beginning, he favoured chat on yahoo to emails or dating site chat and messages. He claims to have a 2 bed roomed cottage in Cornwall and a 6 bedroomed house in New York. Has two flash cars, including the usual Range Rover. Predictably, he states that he is due to retire within a few months and wants you to his wife forever.

However, he makes lots of silly mistakes right from the beginning. For example, his profile states that he is a vegetarian, but during chat, says that he has just eaten chicken. He keeps getting his time zones wrong, so that when you ask him what time it is in Afghanistan, he gets it wrong by one hour. On
e moment, he will tell you that he has a daughter, the next minute he has two!

Within minutes of starting a chat online, he will disappear suddenly, sometimes for hours. His excuse is that he lost the connection, or that he was called for an emergency, but it always happens after you ask him an awkward question that he does not want to answer.

I have no idea what his scam is. Quite by accident, I discovered that he had posted a new profile with a new name, but using the same photo. I asked him if he knew about it and he said that "Stanley" had stolen his identity, and asked that I report Stanley to the dating site administrators.

Here are some of his emails to me.

This would most likely evolve into a typical military scam in which he would need you to pay for (a) satellite phone; (b) a leave or discharge request. Occasionally the scammer will just go the "my child has an emergency but I can't access my money here so can you send money to pay her hospital bill/tuition/food costs" route

Needless to say, I will now cease all contact with this scammer

Yes, that's another scam technique. You'd be told that the "diplomats" have been detained at an airport en-route, and that you have to send money by Western Union for their release.

Although I had ceased all contact with this scammer, he contacted me again to wreak some kind of vengeance. He tried tried to send me a pc virus with this message:-

"is true that someday your love one would turn to be your enemy"
by jand Mon Sep 20, 2010 8:12 am
I don't believe this!!
My Mum met this man on a dating site a few months ago. Her marriage had just ended and she was ready to move on. Along comes this man calling himself 'Andrewz Rudduck' and needless to say he knew all the right things to say to charm her. He said all the things she wanted to hear, for example:

" I want to look after you forever"
"I care for you so much Honey, I'm so happy I found you"

Etc Etc. Most of the emails were full of stuff like that and were exchanged on a daily basis.
He claimed he was a 55yr old male, with 2 daughters and that he lived in Fulham but was currently serving in the Army in Iraq. While he was there his daughters went to boarding school.
In August the news broke out that the war was over and troups were coming home. He said he would be home within a month or so. In the mean time he had arranged for two bags to be sent to her that were to be delivered to her house by a 'Diplomat Christopher Amey'. He said one bag contained his army uniform and the other £250,000 and a 'little surprise' for my Mum. He said the money was what he had recieved for his service in the Army and that he trusted my Mum to look afer it until he returned home. Of course, my Mum was a little suspicious and asked him if this was all legal. He then replied with a nasty email, saying she didn't trust him and that he is good man and would never cause her harm etc etc. This then made my Mum feel guilty for questioning him and she agreed she would look after the bags.
She then recieved a few emails from 'Diplomat Christopher Amey' with his updates on his journey home from Iraq to the UK with these two bags for my Mum.
We then recieved an email froom him saying the bags were being held in Customs at an airport and to get them released he asked for her to pay £6,800.
Luckily my Mum had come to her senses and said she would not send the money. And as you can probably guess she has not heard from him since.

It is a bizarre feature of West African scams that the role of diplomats has assumed the folklore role of a pantomime character. Diplomats don't deliver people's bags around the world and it would actually be illegal for them to do so. Their function is the delivery of diplomatic papers between goverments and their embassies, so any hint at them sauntering off on trips to deliver boxes or bags stuffed full of cash (or army uniforms  ) to private individuals is laughable, but it seems to be the standard silly story most scammers learn.

Diplomatic baggage has to be clearly marked as such and it must be the most closely scrutinised and monitored luggage on the planet. Any diplomat attempting to divert a diplomatic bag to anywhere other than his Embassy would end up with a long tail of Secret Service agents following him - but scammers tell fairy tales, and not very good ones. I mean - if the bag were diplomatic luggage why would Customs hold it up at all ?

He's just a scammer who wants money.
