This is a scam. No army asks for money to be sent by MoneyGram. Please post the emails he sent you, especially the first ones, which are script, and the request for money. Include both the From and the Reply-To addresses and any other identifiers (telephone numbers, web addresses) that victims of the scammer may search for.

He is definitely a scammer. There are no US military in Nigeria and the military never communicate with outsiders.

The best thing to do is totally block the scammer and stop responding to him. Do not accuse him of being a scammer as he will just deny it.

Please can you also post all the email addresses that the scammer uses, links to his profiles on Facebook or whereever you met him and examples of the emails he has sent (particularly any asking for money).

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.
