Information on romance scams and scammers.

Hi there please help - I have been talking to a gentleman I met on mingle2 - we have been talking for about 8 weeks everything was nice lovely emails - he has phoned me once sent me photo's all the same guy in his uniform etc etc. He states he is a Captain in the US Marine Corps - he basically has told me all about his life - and I was unsure at first so I told him about my friend being scammed someone was asking for money and he told me he would never do that - and he told me how much he earns which is personal info..... then he went on a mission for 3 days no contact turned into 6 days then last night got an email and photo of him saying that he was in hospital been injured and he wants to me to apply for emergency leave for him -- he gave me [email protected] he HAS NOT asked for any money.... please help IS HE A SCAM he has given me all his details like dod id number etc etc - I feel very confused and hurt as I thought he was a perfect gentleman :( :( :( :(

I am sorry, but it is a definite scam.

Soldiers never have to pay for leave, the military never communicate with outsiders and the email address he has given you to write to is a free one.

Please can you post the email address and phone numbers that the scammer is using as other victims may be searching for them.

Then block him and ignore all further contact from him. Do not accuse him of being a scammer, he will just deny it.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

Please post the whole email, including the address (but not your own address). Post both the early emails and the one asking for leave.

All people in the US military have email addresses ending in ".mil". Anyone who claims to be in the US military and cannot give you a .mil address is a scammer.
