I think i am being scamed

About three months ago a started to talk with a female i meet on Zoosk a dating site(her account closed as soon as she start to talk to me).I think of myself as fairly smart individual so i didn't think i would be scamed.The first red flag went off when she said she was from Nigeria then i automatically taught to myself African scammer but the story sound realistic to me at the time so my guard went down,The story was her father died and her mom move back with her to Africa to Nigeria and she was coming to florida to student in next couple of months.

Then i guess the story start to read like a text book scam.She said her birthday was coming and me being eager to impress i offer to get her a gift and since we where having problems communicating i offered to get her a phone or laptop.Instead of listen to my better judgment and i got the laptop instead of the cheaper phone because she had to go to library and i taught we could communicate with the webcam.So i went out bought the laptop and sent it Fed ex to this address

She got the laptop,Then claim that the webcam didn't work.She has talk about coming to here to be with me but it has going from he coming herself to me paying for ticket and for her to renew her American passport.The biggest red flag was even though when i mention that i am finical strapped state she still mentions want to come soon and says she will stop talking to me if i don't give the money for the stuff.I have gone back and forth in my head if being scammed because the pics are matching up and every once in awhile she says the the right thing when i ask for exact details but overall evidence keeps points to a scam.

She use buzz a lot,She claim her fiance cheated and left her,Works at an Orphanage,When i said i would buy her ticket with a credit card she insist that sent the money to her so she can set it up with her agent.Then when i copy and paste three of her letters

Part of me it wants to be real but now as i read more of the letters and cut and paste them in google,More and more of them starting to pop up.Luckily for me i am middle of jobs so i didn't have that much to give i am only out around 1500 which piss me off but i realize i could be out more.I still have my smile and lesson learned.But i was wondering if there is anything i can do because i am still taking to this person.Is there anything i can do stop this person from do this to another person.

Unfortunately I have no doubt you are dealing with a scammer.

"She" may not even be a female. More likely, it is a male on the other end of the computer. The scammer is not the person in the photos--that is why "she" claims that the webcam is broken--the scammer doesn't have access to the real person in the photos so they have to avoid webcam.

The best thing you can do is post some more of the emails, with headers--preferably the ones where "she" talks about herself, and ones where she asks for money. The three you posted are not the scammer's writing--they have been copied from romance sites. Posting as much information as possible well help others to avoid being scammed. You can also put "used by scammer" on top of the photos and post those too.

In addition, please post any names/numbers/addresses this person is using. Also, if this scammer has an existing FB profile, could you please provide a link?

sounds like what is happening to me i also lost 1500 for flight.then told me that her father was oil contractor and she has 2.5 million in 2 boxes in elite international company (security company) that is holding these boxes and her passport she wrote to them to release them to me they want 1500 western union to release.red flag ive been checking but found no company like that i also am playing along and trying to find more info and someone that will assist in apprending them in the act notified ftc.everything is a charge doesnt anyone just want to protect people since they are getting paid for it anyway.i have address ,,email from her and bank with all computer tech going on working with someone legal should be able to tract them down.let me know if we can find a computer legal that will help us and do the right thing.are there any computer legals out there tht want to get even????????????i even have account # but probably arenot real since the only way to get to the bank is email.anyone want to help?????????

First of all, you are right. You are dealing with a scammer, absolutely no doubt about it.

I can certainly understand wanting to get even, but unfortunately I can tell you that you are wasting your energy.

As you said, the account number is fake. There is no real bank involved, either. The scammer (who is most likely male, not female) has used free email addresses, and opened them with fake information, so they will be dead ends. The name of the person you sent money to is fake also. If you get a location from IP addresses, they will most likely lead you to a public internet cafe used by hundreds of people--you will not be able to trace the emails to a specific person using a computer in the cafe. Even if you could, you would get nowhere. Your law enforcement does not have jurisdiction in Nigeria, and they won't go through the extensive process required to request action from Nigerian law enforcement for a loss of a few thousand dollars. In fact, in the US, you pretty much have to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars before action will be taken. Even when action is taken, law enforcement in Nigeria is known for extreme corruption--the scammer will likely be able to bribe his way out of jail.

At this point, you should drop all contact with this scammer. He has real information about you, and it is best not to mess with criminals who have your personal information. There is much more information on safely playing with scammers at our baiting site 419eater.com Also be aware that some scammers will contact you posing as law enforcement (with new names and new email addresses) and they will say they can get the criminal arrested and/or your money back. This is what is known as a recovery scam, and is really an attempt to get even more money from you.

With that said, it is still a good idea to report the crime--other governments need to understand how deep the problem is to encourage them to take action. It would also help if you post some of the letters your scammer sent here. Their letters are often scripts that they reuse even when they change names, so having a script posted can help someone else to realize they are being scammed.

they are good can get exact info to the airlines they did have her scheduled and the flights were legite but was not paid for yet.she also has the security company but no phone # or address she just uses email RED FLAG AGAIN.anybody can make a reservation they will go the extra mile to show you they are real.
