Information on romance scams and scammers.

I was approched by a Msgt from the US army on a dating site...same old story....declaired his undying love for me within 2 weeks, said he wanted to come to me once his service had finished etc..etc.. gifts of flowers and poems  typical charmer who made me fall head over heels in love. I know he is, or at least I think I know he is who he says he is as I have photos of him and one contains a framed picture of me in. I began to get suspect when he asked me to send money as he had to pay for his release papers. I contacted a US Government Office via email to have this confirmed.Unfortunately this wasnt the case...Lie number ??????? I still chatted to him on line and a few weeks later he said he had a package to send to me with his clothing and personal documents in and would I accept them...I said yes initially until THE BOMBSHELL He informed me I would have to pay for the package when his 'friend' delivered it and the cost would be £2000. I emailed him stating I would store the package for him but I would not be parting with any money. I havent heard from him since and I know he is online chatting to other women....I just hope they are not stupid enough to send the money to him. I think I have had a narrow escape as although I loved him I wasnt a fool in love :laugh-s: I want to name and shame him but dont know if I can do it on this site.

I'm sorry to hear you were another target of these scammers, though I am glad you haven't lost any money. You can certainly post his information here--the scammer may be in contact with others under the same identity, and posting his information can help to keep them from being scammed. We do ask that you post some of his emails, especially early ones as those are generally scripts he will reuse. Also please post the headers from one of his emails.

I also want to make sure you realize that the person you were in contact with is not really an American soldier. Scammers hide behind fake names, or real names of other people. They use photos they have simply taken from the internet. They often do not know the real people in the photos or anything about them. Typically the scammers posing as US military personnel are not American at all--this particular format tends to be favored by African scammers.

Edit to add: Please post the photos he sent too--instructions can be found in my signature line. I expect the one where he is holding your picture is photoshopped, as this is a typical scammer tactic--but we do need to see it to confirm that is the case.

Hi Beenhad - actually you had the scammer by finding out in time!
I am glad you made it to scamwarners from our sister site, the Eaters.
I just registered here, it was me who sent you, and I wanted to say "welcome".
Shortly, some very experienced members will be here to give you good advice. In the meantime, could you retrieve the early emails you got?
Please post the scammer's email address here, women who research it will hit this site.
And copy the text your scammer sent and post it here, please. Leave out any of your own details, i.e. do not post your own email address, location, postal address.
The advisors of scamwarners will ask you more questions which I will leave out for now.
As an aside, I do hope you have dropped all communication with the scammer.
Love
Katharina

I have tried uploading a picture of Brian Ebert but I am not very good with computers..his email address is [email protected] I know the imposter has an email on Yahoo and he is probably on Plenty of Fish and Oasis dating sites as he asked me which ones I had been on...I met him on Tata dating using the name DragonDY

Just had an IM from the above asking yet again for even more money to be sent :mad2: I declined again telling him if he wanted too be with me that badly he would find a way...cant help it my outlook has changed towards him and Im being wicked now just stringing him along...Am I bad...no Im not. You know the saying what goes around comes around...my time now :squish: yes Im the one driving.lol I did mention that he used his webcam and he sent a panic wink, maybe I got him worried...Oh well hes probably trying the line on some other unfortunate sole now. What do puzzle me is he is so quick with the answers to my questions and they all seem valid.

Hi Beenhad, as you mention, scammers are very quick with seemingly plausible answers, it is part of their method, the really successful ones can manipulate their victims into believing everything they say.

If you read around the forums in here, you will find posts that describe in detail how they carry on, fortunately, the majority do make mistakes eventually, but unfortunately it is usually after their victim has lost money, friends, family.

They are very good at telling lies, each victim provides them with more training, and they use what they learn to extract more money.

Thank you for following the advice in Eater and posting in here.

Hi Beenhad,
he is quick to come up with genuine looking answers because he is following a script. He created one or several profiles he is using again and again. Maybe he has the answers ready on the computer and just does a quick copy-and-paste job.
Just to make you enjoy your sweet revenge: He spent time and money - paying for online time at his cyber cafe, he may have been bragging to his scammer collegues, he is looking forward to the cash ....
To make your victory complete, please consider posting the text he used in his emails if you still have them. Another victim might google some lines and could find them here.
Of course you realize that you are dealing with a criminal. While you need not be afraid of him - as he is most probably in a cyber cafe in Nigeria or Ghana - once it dawns on him that you will never send any money he might send you nasty emails. So you might consider dropping the contact.
I am glad you seem to be recovering from the ugly experience!

I am still trying my hardest to upload the photos but Im not having much luck...keep trying though.

Hi there beenhad,

Posting his mails would be really helpful to us :) There is no specific tool for this, so you can just copy and paste his emails into a post here. As Katharina said, that may alert other victims.

If you continue to have problems with posting the pictures you can just mail them to me, and then I will post them for you.

The night sky twinkles above
The stars mirror the light in your eyes
They fill with the look of love
And with the bond that ties

The eyes are the window to the soul
Open to expose the heart's real need
What is the payment of the toll?
A spark that is planted like a seed

This spark is a fire burning within
A desire to expand the glow
To some, it's simply a sin
To others, the heart will know

The eyes show the love you feel
The heart is open wide
My soul has to close the deal
Then you walk with me by my side

Love is a gift I give to you
My heart for you to hold
If you feel the love I feel too
Our hearts will warm and block out the cold

Thinking of You...

?

I've been thinking about you.
And I know I don't say it often enough,
but I appreciate all you do.
I've never known anyone
as giving as you.
You always go that extra mile
to inspire and encourage me.
You make me want to try harder;
you make me want to succeed.
You've made me
believe in me.
For this and so much more,
I'm sending good wishes
to your door.

Let me start by saying that I thank God every night since I found you. You came into my life when everything seemed so dark but you provided the light to find my way. I've never been so certain of anything in my life like I am of us. You have totally changed my outlook in life and I thank you for that. I never thought that someone could love me like you do, but guess what? I love you that much too. I feel as if I'm walking over clouds just thinking about you. You make my life complete. I know you've said we could do foolish things while in love, but you know what? With you I wouldn't mind being a fool for the rest of my life. I love you so much and I know you love me too. I know that others looking into our relationship might think that we're saying too many foolish things too soon but they just don't know how we feel about each other. There's nothing foolish about the things I've told you, I meant every word I said. I love you and for you and D. I would do anything, I love you both so much. Today I promise you that I would do anything in my power to make you a great person, outstanding father and loving husband. I LOVE YOU!!

Dear

I know that neither one of us had in mind that we would meet someone on the Internet and fall in love but it has happened. And for that, I have no regrets. In fact, it is one of the best things that has ever happened to me in years. For this, and what has happened to us and between us I have you to thank.

For almost the past year, you have brought so much joy to me that words can never explain although there has been sadness and pains. In the past weeks, you have brought so much life back into a lifeless body and we have not even met face to face. For almost the past weeks, I know and realize what it is to LOVE again and to feel loved.

I never thought it would last this long, but it has. This is a clear indication that we have so much in common and we are building on something that is real. I hope we get the chance to see this thing through.

There have been hard times, bad times and good times, but with that comes lonely times. We have reached new and higher grounds with what we have shared in the past weeks, and I would do it all over again with you if I had to. I have no regrets.

I am sending you this to let you know that I have been sent an angel to be with me, and you are that angel.

Please understand that we have so much to give to each other and I look forward to that day. I believe it is closer now than ever before. It is just that there may be a few more obstacles that we need to clear up and very happy we have done it, and I think you know what I am talking about. Besides that, we can and I know we will survive.

Love always,

Brian

I know this may sound cliché' but to be honest you changed my life. From the moment I saw you I knew you were a gift from God. You constantly shower me with unconditional love and you always understand my shortcomings without criticism. Just looking at you is enough to make me happy. My life is now full of promise, every day is worth looking forward to, and it’s all because of you. You made me become a better person. I never thought I could love someone the way I love you now. I know you hear this all the time, but I want to tell you again and again that I truly love you and my life would never be the same without you. I miss you every day.

Love always,

I am so thankful I met you! You are the most important person in my life. I never thought I would find someone like you to share my life with, and now I don't even want to imagine what my life would be like without you in it. I love the way you make me laugh, how we tell each other everything, how we do everything together. Wherever you are is where I want to be. When we are together I feel like it's just you and me, there's no one else on earth. It feel like we're the only ones here. I fall madly in love with you more and more each day. If there’s one thing in this world I know, it's that I AM SO IN LOVE WITH YOU!!

Love always,

Dear

Hey Beautiful, I just wanted to do something simple to say I love you and to put that smile I love so much back on your face. I want everyone to know how much you mean to me. Ever since you have entered my life, I've been flying on Cloud 9 and I have not come down yet.

I tell you this everyday, but you are the most beautiful person I know, inside and out and I see that more clearly with each passing day. I love everything about you, about us. You do something to me that no other has, you have made me so happy, the happiest I've ever been. You give me the most amazing feelings inside, the feeling of being in love with you.

I still don't know what I did to be so lucky to have you in my life, my dream come true... I am so thankful though. In this short time that we've been together, we have grown so much and I can't wait to see what the future holds for us. I love you,, with all my heart and soul, always and forever!

Love always,

.

Definitely an African scammer.

Almost everything he sent you is copied and pasted, which is why the English usually good.

For example:
http://weloved.com/love_letters/part2/we_can.htm
http://www.lovingyou.com/content/inspiration/loveletters-content.php?ID=869
http://www.poemslovers.com/love_letters/i_love_you/letters/356.html

The English deteriorates quickly in the few lines he wrote himself, and the mistakes are typical of an African scammer.
