Information on romance scams and scammers.

I'm so jazzed I went with my woman's intuition.I have finally caught my romance scammer after a few weeks of his loving letters/poems.Searching the net I came across many, emailed him 1 to let him know I was onto him&'his'poetry.Well, last night I got closer to getting him to answer all the questions he's been evading since early November. He was just too goodlooking/too good to be true.He never would post any other pics after numerous requests.I inquired about the pic resembling that of a magazine;no reply. All of a sudden another flirt showed up in my mailbox(seniormatchmaking site)&the pic of the new guy looked identical to the first guy.I felt I was being tested,& being an honest person,I don't flirt around when I'm focused on 1.I inquired to this 2nd guy,no reply except for flirts;due to non paying membership he can't send messages.Red flad on both counts. The 1st guy makes so much money(not disclosed by him(based on his occupation)yet, he doesn't own/have in his possession a cell phone that can be used in Canada?Red flag.Unfortunately I already gave him my cell# only. His name is "James Kahn" 60;extremely handsome/widow,no relatives in USA.Born in Germany, moved to FL when 19,parents died when he was 21&28,good male friend of his dad sponsored him like a son sent him to UK for schooling/Masters degree in electrical engineering;specialized field of building powergenerating plant.Works on contract/self employed~all over the world,2-3 weeks at a time. Willing to relocate.Lost in wife and son in a 'vital'car accident 5 yrs.ago, not dated since.Currently in Manitoba,Canada&has no idea when he'll be done.I was falling for this guy,I'm so willing to take someone face value, but I always have my guard up.Pays off, gosh what a lame website(limited software)membership fees aren't cheap either, they should invest it to the member's advantage.I e-mailed them of my suspicions, all they wrote back was block him.Even prisoners/convicts have access to membership of which they do not deny for discrimination.I know both pics are related to the same guy even though they have different member names. Both write in their profiles/bio, to leave contact info(against the websites policy)so I believed they were informed and had the profile content deleted, but their profiles remain on the website.Tonight, hopefully I will finally get the confirmation of pics I've waited&requested for a month now.All his letters match exactly on the scammer's for romance site.I feel sort of bummed that the truth has come to surface due to my ongoing suspicious nature which paid off;but glad I didn't let my heart go completely.I can't handle rejection well after falling so hard~depression has loomed over too long.I'll get over the scammer's attention, but it does make the next honest guy a difficult challenge to work his charms on me.It's been 15 yrs. since my last date(which is posted in my profile~guess that's a 'sign' or sorts to scammers as well eh?)but,I'm not settling for just anyone.I'm going to attempt to post the pics on here;as I'm not computer literate,it's always trial and error with this mini mac. The scammer's e-mail: kahnjames@live.

Welcome to ScamWarners citrine52.

I'm glad that you were suspicious about this correspondent.

It is quite typical for a West African romance scammer to pretend that he has a mixed-background (eg born in Germany, later moved to an English-speaking country) - he hopes that this will explain away his unexpected accent if/when he speaks to you on the phone. It is also typical for a romance scammer to claim that his parents are dead, and that his wife and child died in a car accident. He needs to have no family to turn for financial help; and he hopes that the tragedy of losing his wife and child will make you feel sympathy towards him, and want to help make him happy again. Not all romance scammers use these stories, of course, but many of them do so.

Are you falling for a love scammer?

It is always a shock to discover that someone is not genuine. But, like you say, at least you realised this before you became too emotionally involved - and before you were tricked into sending money to him.
