We will have been married almost 12 years; but she has recently been chatting with an American "doctor" living in Syria who is returning to the US in a few months. He claims to be making $150K a year, has two houses in Alabama and Texas, is widowed with a 12 year old daughter studying in Lebanon, is offering my wife an executive's position in an oil company he started, and says they can live anywhere she wants. The other night she told me she wants to divorce me because this 'doctor' asked her to marry her and she accepted. I am a former teacher who is now working in a convenience store, so I am upset about this. Her mother even feels that he can do more than my wife than I can. I am trying to convince my wife that he could be a phony; but she swears that he is a real person. Since I have heard of similar scams, I am worried he's going to ask her for money and wipe out everything we have worked hard for. What can I do to convince her that this could be a scam? Have any of you heard of similar scams?

This has several red flags indicating a romance scam. Highly paid individual that has a young child living outside of the US .
Claims to have his own business that he just started. Next there will be some type of emergency where he needs money and he suddenly will not have access to his own money.

If possible post a sample email from this doctor along with any contact information that you may have.
