Information on romance scams and scammers.

Hi

I met Martin Burkland on Tinder. I couldn't meet him in person because he was called back for an emergency in Syria.

We started talking on WeChat. His WeChat ID is pp08037. Name: DS, MB. I have fallen deeply in love with this orphaned man whose wife died and left him with a 3 year old son named Persian. His wife's name was Ella.

Everything was great, until he told me about a large sum of money - $650,000 plus 2 bonds that he has in a safety deposit box, but the security company is retreating from Syria so he must get the money out. I immediately said no and it led to a huge fight.

Everything was great after that - he even sent me 2 voice notes telling me that he loves me. Until last night when I received the email from the diplomatic agent that would drop the briefcase off. What alerted me was the email address: [email protected] I got suspicious and found out that Agent Steven Watson is fake.

I freaked out and refused to reply to the mail with a copy of my passport. Since I told Martin (which was probably stupid), I haven't received another email. I also didn't pay any money.

Since then I have read about romance scams and things seem to fall in place: his English (sometimes), he never calls me by my name etc.

I just...well, like I am sure many visitors of this website, need to know if this man and little boy I fell in love with is fake.

I have searched the internet far and wide to find his photos, but I can't find anything. He also sent me 2 videos of him in the gym. All the pictures (target practise, Christmas with his kid, etc. are the same). I have not blocked him yet, partly because I am afraid all 'evidence' will disappear.

Please advise me on what to do.

Thank you

Hi, I'm sorry, but he's a definite scammer. There is no money/bonds, the scammer just wants you to pay fees to the fake courier in the hope of having them delivered.

The best thing to do is totally block him and the courier and don't respond to them any further.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

Thank you. I will do so.

Is there anything more I can do to help? Send you pictures of him?

I never paid anything, but they have my house address. Should I be scared?
