Shannon,

You write him off as a bad experience. Block his emails.

He has given a false name and everything he has told you will be a lie.

If you have sent him money, then it is gone, lost, irrecoverable. Anyone who says otherwise is a scammer themself.

If all he has is your name, address and email then you have nothing to worry about - he is probably a spotty student somewhere on the other side of the world who is making a living by ripping off anyone who will fall for his charm and sob story.

You are not alone - that is why there is a whole enormous section on Romance Scams here: viewforum.php?f=13

Mod Note: We do not suggest having outside contact with new members or low post count member. You will not know who you are contacting. Everything should be posted in the open where it can be monitored for everyone's safety. (BW)

Shannon,

I have been scammed by a guy who said working in an oil rig and said he is 56 years old. I met him on tagged. Maybe we can contact each other. The scammer also know my address.

I've been chatting with a man that says he's a caption in the military. He's stationed in Chad according to his information he's shared. He's older, seems sincere has never asked for money. I chat with him on hangouts , it's a chatting app. He says he can't video chat or Skype. I just want to know now if he's real he seems to be, but you never know

He's a scammer. Soldiers on deployment don't spend their spare time on the Internet chatting with strangers they've never met. They would be contacting their real friends and family.

The request for money will come eventually, once the scammer is certain you've fallen for his lies.

The best thing to do now is block him and don't respond any further

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.
