Your are correct, this is a scam. Please post a copy of the email from the fake soldier, including the email address that he is using.
Also post the contents of the email from [email protected]

If it's a PDF and it's mostly text, you can post the text, which will be enough. In Okular (I think it's similar in Acrobat but I don't have it), hold down the Selection button, and you get a pulldown menu. Click on Text Selection Tool. Then you can highlight text and copy and paste it.
