Is she also a scammer

I am living in Belgium and are registerd in a dating site called Lexa.nl

A few weeks ago I received a message from a member called: houston_a_907.
In this she made contact and i gave my email for more info about her
and asked for a picture. My picture was on the Lexa site and not a picture of her.
I received an email from her which I will copy at the end of this message.

We chatted on MSN several days in a row, she told she was on a tradefair in Africa
and was buying gemstones and beads. Because I had to go to Holland to attend some
unfinished bussiness we could not talk through MSN we exchanged cell phone numbers
and she said to me she wanted to come to Holland and help me out.
She contacted me through sms and asked me for 100 euros for her luggage to get
to the airport at Lagos. I sent it to her. When she arrived at Lagos airport she
contacted me and said she needed 650 euro for customs to clear her goods. She
had bought 200 kilo of jewelry worth 60000 euros.
At this time alarmbells were going off by me. I have not sent the money and am stalling
to find out if she is for real and not a scammer.
She said she understands but if I would please sent at least some money for food because
she has to beg for food. According to her she is now since X-mas at this airport and if
she sleeps with the customs officer her goods will be released and she may fly to holland.
Her passport is taken by the customsofficer she claimed and also she had help from the US ambassy because she is a US citizen.
She uses the name of Susan Houston, emailaccounts [email protected] and [email protected] Her cellphone is +2347034228454.

Is she for real or is she a scammer? Please help me

Welcome to Scamwarners.
That is a scam. The requests for money to allow "her" to leave the country are typical elements of a romance scam.
No professional jewellery buyer is going to be caught out by an unexpected customs bill. They'd do some research while planning the visit and arrange to have the funds available to pay it. And why would a European be using a cellphone with a Nigerian number?

Sorry to give you the bad news, but yes, this is a scammer. She is not stuck at the airport in Lagos, begging for food. There are no jewels (and if she had them, she could easily sell a few of those for money to get food). She is no orphan with a Belgian parent, she is just a scammer. Nothing more, nothing less. Drop her completely, don't even read any future emails. Block her from msn or any other way you are in contact with her, she'll only try to convince you into believing her story again.

As Arnold said, there is unfortunately no doubt that this is a scammer.

Jewelry or antique dealer is a pretty common "job" for a romance scammer posing as a female. In fact, the whole storyline and setup are typical of a scammer--it's clear from what you wrote that the scammer is playing a young, very attractive female who is innocent and vulnerable.

A few other key points, in addition to the what has been pointed out:
-If "she" were really an American, the American embassy would be able to get her out of the country.
-Most flights that originate from outside the US have a weight limit for total checked baggage. The average is 20kg/44lbs if you're traveling in coach class, 30kg/66lbs for business class and 40kg/88lbs for first class. And she is claiming that she is taking 200 kg of jewelry in addition to her personal baggage? The cost of shipping the jewelry would be more than the cost of the jewelry itself!
-Even without the evidence of scam above, the language tells me for certain that this is not someone who was raised in the United States. The scammer makes some key mistakes and uses terminology you will not hear from an American. The specific mistakes and the phrasing tell me that there is no doubt the person who wrote that email is African.

Commercially African jewellery has little value, certainly in the UK where there are strict laws requiring anything claimed to be gold has to have a UK assay mark. The scammer is ignorant of commercial reality and is trying to impress you with what sounds impressive to them.

In addition I want to report that "she" was nearly convincing me on msn by answering specifiq questions about her
and where "she" lives in Belgium. But when I asked her adress in Belgium it took her almost 4 minutes to come up with the adress so I quess "she" googled just an adress. Also I asked for more photo's but "she"claimed she had just
the one "she" send me with her pet.
And also the fact that I am very sick at the moment, "she"is only interested when I can send her the money "she" asked me for.

Here I am again with an update regarding Susan Houston.

I received from Alain also living in Belgium a message that he had the same experience with Susan Houston
as well.
She told him the same as she told me, he was asked to send her 650 euros as well through Western Union.
She used the same email adress [email protected] but used another cell +234703422845.
Like me she send him every day lovepoems and he was not allowed to come online before he send her a message.
To me she did the same I had to promise not to talk to other women and send her an sms whem I came online.
I hope that this woman will not make more victims with this scam.
She contacted Alain also through the dating site LEXA.
She has already removed her account from that site.
Her username she used to me was houston_a_907.

Hopefully this is the end of this lady.
