Information on romance scams and scammers.

So I was contacted on Facebook a couple of weeks ago now by a message request, not a friend request. Being fairly friendly, I accepted it and messaged this person. Story - in UN in Syria as a Major General. Lost wife in auto accident about 11 yrs ago. He is very romantic sounding (I've been playing along...) Now he wants to 'vacation' back over in the US (he's from PA) and will then retire. But he doesn't want to go to his hometown, but to mine instead. Wanted to know if I'd receive his personal goods at hoe for him. No I wouldn't - but I'm wondering, I think this is a scam.

I had the same thing about a year ago ... contacted thru facebook ... same story. We had been talking for about a month before he asked if he could send a few things to me , so when he left Syria, he could come to Australia for a visit before heading home. I said sure, why not .... not really expecting anything. Next thing I knew, he was telling me the package was held up in customs, and to get it, it would cost thousands of dollars, cause of course he didn't have all the proper documentation. Anyways, I got the hard sell to send money to cover the costs ..... Honestly, these guys are good .... if you weren't on the ball, you could get taken in big time. Wonder if it was the same name??

Could you post some of the emails with your personal information removed? Make sure to include his full fake name as well as email addresses and phone numbers he's using. This will help warn others.

We never used email or phones. Phones were not allowed, as it could give away their location. Mainly talked via chat apps .... Gmail and Yahoo. He went by many names and alias's: Erroll Cravey / Albert Cravey / Steve Ransome / Barbara Shaw / John Nicholson / Albert Erroll Cravey.
There were also numerous email addresses attached to these alias's:
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]

I could add a number of photos too, if that is of help.

I did find another post reporting one of the emails you listed here, [email protected]:

If you could post the photos, that would help. Please watermark them as stolen photos before posting. This thread explains how to post photos:

I expect it is the same one. The name used is Jason Moore. His latest story is that his caretaker's son was hospitalized with cardiac arrest and needed $2850 to cover some expenses. Needless to say, I did not agree to that.

I have so many photos, and they are all very consistent, from this guy. I tried to figure out how to post but can't. He is 'chatting' via Google Hangouts, not exchanged any emails or phones, as he 'can't make or receive calls there' - he says! I'd be curious to see if others have pictures that are from the same guy or not.

this sounds just like my guy .... i can't work out the photos too ... bet they are the same though .... we talked thru hangouts till i started questioning things . . then suddenly the story was that he was hacked. We then moved to Yahoo messenger .... where at least 10 accounts come up under his name ....

Wow! You know it's really funny, because you mention Australia (you live there?) and one of his pictures was of him sitting on a rock at oceanside, telling me it was on a vacation in Australia. If it is the same one, these guys are absolutely perfect at keeping their stories straight! I'm tempted to keep playing along with this just to see how long before he gives up!
