Information on romance scams and scammers.

I am presently involved with a possible romance scam. He does not proclaim to be in the military as alot of these posts seem to be. He had his profile on a dating website with a handsome photo and profile to which I replied to. Before I had replied I did not notice that he "lived" in a different state. But he responded to my wink. And he was very complimentary to my profile. Well he quickly emailed and within a couple of days wanted to go to Yahoo Messenger. I had never used Yahoo Messenger before but was quick to get myself setup with it so I could chat with this remarkable man. We instantly hit it off and it was all over for me. Within a couple of weeks he was telling me he was falling in love with me and I must admit that I had already fallen for him. He then told me he had to go to London for a business seminar and that he would miss me terribly. He called me when he arrived but his phone# was blocked. We had not spoken on the phone before this. He had said he was Italian and when I heard his voice I was weak in the knees. He sounded Italian to me. But what do I know. I just loved the accent and him. He was in continuous communication with me via phone (blocked phone#) and YIM. He then told me after his seminar was over (3 days) that he was going to Ghana to see about getting raw materials for his jewelry business and that he would be there for "5, 6 or 7 days". My heart sank. He asked me to pray for him. I did. After he was in Ghana for a couple of days he said his bank in the U. S. has frozen his account because they said he had taken too much cash out and so he asked if I would purchase two unlocked Nokia phones and send them to him. I told him I did not have that kind of money to do that but was heartbroken at the same time because I immediately thought "scam". Long story short I did not send him the phones, but then a couple of days later he said he needed me to wire him $500.00 since his money was frozen. I feel so taken and stupid. I sent him the money. It was my money for my electricity, car insurance, etc. I am so smitten. I have never felt so immobilized and enamoured by a man I have never met face to face. I know what I need to do but my heart just wants differently. I just needed to vent. Anyone else had a similar experience?

Hi KatieLove!
Welcome to Scamwarners.
It sounds like you are well aware that you're dealing with a scammer. You have sent him money. He will try to get more. The best possible thing for you to do at this point is to stop all communication with him.
Please post one or two of his emails, with headers. If you haven't done that before go here: http://www.ip-adress.com/faq/view_email_header/
I'm really sorry that this man turned out to be a scammer and you lost money.
