Information on romance scams and scammers.

Used dating site OurTime and met a person by the name of Scott on May 4, 2018. Since this dating app’s rules prefer you not to reveal who we are in their message forum for security reasons that do pop up they ask that you use another contact medium so he suggested Hangouts. He then revealed his name as Scott Herrmann and that he was stationed at Fort Detrick in Maryland. Conversation was normal initial small talk, nothing suspicious or out of the ordinary. Spelling was excellent except couldn’t properly use the word “too” in context as in me too - he used me to - consistently. About after a month later he stated he was being deployed to Syria where he supposedly is still. His rank is Sargaent. His one photo shows a proper US military patch of ISAF (International Security Assistance Force). Conversations are still normal with the only bad use ofcthe “too” as mentioned above otherwise vocabulary and spelling are excellent and properly used. Things got more personal and more romantic. Kept wondering when he was coming stateside and finally a date of November 3, 2018 is given and upon returning to the US he will be retiring after 20 years of service. Now the kicker: He earned a consignment box for a rescue mission and needs to get it home BEFORE he can actually come home as that was the deal he made when he originally signed for it. Sounds not kosher. Have photos of him even one that clearly shows a hand wound and uniform on him. All photos match of the same person. Usually they ask for money immediately where this took over five months. Hence why I am questioning it. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Sorry, but he's a definite scammer. Romance scammers will often go many months before they ask for money. They want to ensure that their victims are totally bought in to their web of lies.

The photos are stolen from a real soldier's social media, everything else is just lies.

Do you have any email addresses or telephone numbers for him? His other victims may be searching for them.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

I’m not sure that they are stolen as they are not coming up as being used by anyone else or being found at all in any of the image searches.

Images only come up in searches if the originals are searchable - the originals may no longer be online or have been made private.

It is 100% certain though that the person you are in contact with is not the person in the photos, so please help his other victims by uploading them and marking them either "Stolen" or "Used by Scammers".

At this time I am requesting that posts made by me regarding this topic and person be removed immediately as I can’t personally verify that it is definitely a scam. And unless and until it can be 100% proved that this name and person is involved in a scam I do not want to be a part of it. Thank you.

Anyone claiming to be in the military and has a consignment box that needs to be shipped is a scammer. IF this was legitimate he could have the box shipped as part of his personal belongings at no expense to him.

If he is legitimate he can email me and I will verify his credentials.
