This is another scammer suspected, and this time there is a new trick:

1. This one did show face on cam, but wierd thing happend, the cam face do not respond or react like others, just keep smiling, typing etc.

2. Also, after a while, the face in the cam disappeared and what i saw is my own face in his cam window..
(i thought it's yahoo problem it happenned each time on cam)

3. So i requested a video call, and the video ended within 3 mins, tried 3 times the same.

4. Voice call works, but you can hear this guy who claimed to be from US and UK, carrying an accent of a black guy from Nigeria, so there the real guy. After i asked why this accent, he got upset and panic.

5. Asked him about his job he seems not very interested in his job, as he said he is engineer in a shipping firm called medditeranean shipping company, and he want to relocate because his wife died in a horrible accident and he has a daughter now staying with his mum, he is in London. And he want to leave UK to forget the sad incident of his wife.

This is scammer's details, he has a profile in Tagged (dating site)

his yahoo messenger id: williamt80 (Thomas William )

His email:

There are various software programs that you can use to feed any video, over a webcam in chat.
The scammers are increasingly using them, but, if you are paying attention, (Like you noticed) the video is usually a short loop, and it repeats itself.
Other tip offs:
The facial expressions or body movements are not appropriate for the conversation.
The person is in the same setting, same clothing, same lighting, every time they use the cam.
They have 'cam problems', and do not want to use a cam often. (Because they have limited footage)

The fact that you saw your face on his cam may mean he was recording your face to use...in scams, or was a glitch in the software.

Seeing a live face on cam is just one step in verifying you are in touch with a real person, but not foolproof in itself. You need to keep detached emotionally, keep checking for other red flags, and be willing to move on when they pop up. Once your brain gets into 'fantasy romance mode', it's hard to keep things under control. Remember, you're dealing with a stranger, unless you do some research, you only know what they tell you.....truth, or otherwise.

To add to bangzhu's important information, the scammer's text proves that he is neither British nor US American: It is typical African English.

thanks bangzhu and Katharina for feedback, it's true what bangzhu pointed out about the cam, very short viewing time and always "cam problems", same scene same clothes and no facial expressions.
For most Asian we are not able to tell african English from British or American, but from phone conversations we might spot the black accent and style.
